Serenity Ranch Kennel Training Center & Pet Supplies

I’m unfortunately having to edit my review as time has gone on and having to stay in touch with the trainers to figure out how to keep my dog on the correct path for learning and behaving. What we didn’t know when we chose this facility is that they are dependent on the e-collar. We sent him for obedience training expecting to be able to pick our dog up, work with him daily, and get him locked in on following and understanding his commands. I had assumed that the e-collar was used as a correction tool but it’s what is used to give the basic command. Since we have been home, our dog knows that if his e-collar isn’t on he does NOT need to listen. Even first thing in the morning bursting out of his kennel and not letting us get ahold of him. Before being sent he knew sit, down, and knew to wait to eat until given the command “break”. He doesn’t even hold a sit anymore!!! He held a sit better before training than he does now and this is with consistent and continual work after dropping $2600 for an “obedient” dog. I’m so frustrated with the wasted money and having to rely on an e-collar for probably the rest of his life unless I shell out another 3k with the facility we ALMOST chose when we decided to go with Serenity. The staff are all nice - don’t get me wrong - but this review is based on the daily struggles we have with our dog. I’m so upset that we are STILL at a point where we can’t just enjoy him. It has been 5 weeks now I think? And he acts like he doesn’t know the commands and doesn’t wait and listen to them. He just darts off, barrels through, won’t hold a command, and I will reiterate that this is WITH DAILY TRAINING. We are deflated, defeated, and feel like we got *maybe* $500 worth of training. But sure as hell not nearly 3 grand. They did warn us that he’d push boundaries to see what he can get away with at home, but he simply does not give af. When he does dial in when we are working with him, he’ll do just as well as he did before we sent - sit, down, crate, and add in place but not actively working with him he doesn’t listen to shit. I can’t have him in “working mode” 24/7 but he does need to be able to listen to these basic commands when he’s not actively in a training session. This is one of my biggest regrets, because we are no better off after spending so much money than we would have been just winging it at home over the last 8 weeks. I don’t recommend it unless you have the patience to put an e-collar on every single freaking day, keep a leash on your dog for “the first 3 weeks” which have turned into 5 and counting for us, and have a more compliant dog than we do. I’m curious as to how other dogs who have completed the training are actually doing since they get you to review them at the time of pick up when all is still fine and dandy
