Scheurman's K9 Academy

I started training with Wally and Edith 3 years ago and have loved every moment. I decided to attend a group basic obedience class to help get Jinx, my year old pit bull, under control. She was very fearful and would stand behind me barking at strangers. During the 6 week class I saw significant improvement in her demeanor and enjoyed training her so much I decided to join their Intermediate Program. Jinx now has the temperament of a therapy dog and will go and politely greet anyone willing to pet her. Wally and Edith are both wonderful and extremely knowledgeable in all things dog. They will tell you the good and the bad when it come to critiquing your handling of your dog so you can make the appropriate corrections to achieve success. As long as you can put in the work you will have a beautifully trained dog.

I brought my dog to learn the basics with Wally and Edith and enjoyed their structure, teaching style and flexibility so much that I wanted to go on to more advance classes and learn all that i could from Wally and Edith. I will bring all my dogs to train with Scheurman's K9 Academy for as long as I can. Scheurman's K-9 academy teaches more than just sit, stand, down, stay and heel. They will teach you dog psychology and what the dog might be thinking in reaction to an action or inaction on the handlers part. What I have gained is well worth the nominal fees that they charge and a life time of knowledge for a family who will always have dogs in their home. The prices at Schuermans simply can't be beat. Most trainers want you to drop off your dog and pick the dog back up 6 weeks later fully trained on a remote collar. Problem is, once the dog degrades and the subsequent training is not followed as consistently as that trainer was while doing the initial training, the old problems set back in rendering that money wasted. With Schuerman's K-9 Academy, you train your own dog. you always hold the leash, you give every correction, you learn how to do it yourself to bond with your dog, learn their behaviors and understand how to correct a problem, should they arise. Classes are an hour, and that give the students ample opportunity to ask questions and relay to the instructors what they are seeing at home, and are given feedback to get that issue corrected to have a happy home life. When selecting a Dog training instructor, i searched high and low...most in Jacksonville won't even do the group classes. I had one person tell me, they don't work- Bologna! They just want more money for the individual (private) lessons (over $1000) or board and train (over $3000). The Group class is where you can learn from other people and their dogs behaviors too. This is where your reactive dog can learn to socialize properly in a controlled environment. Every person who owns a dog should go through some type of obedience training with their dog. I think this has been a pretty good selection for myself, and my dogs.

I have 95 Lb American Bulldog named Dude. He is a good dog but had bad habits, largely due to my ignorance in training dogs. For example, if we were outside he would not come when I wanted him to sometimes. I took him to Scheurman’s academy once I found out I was going to have a baby boy in 9 months. I wanted to make sure there wouldn’t be any aggression issues and also just needed to have more control over this 95 Lb block of muscle. Dude was almost 6 years old when we started training with Wallie. Within 2 months I learned how to establish clear boundaries and rules with some simple commands and habits. This academy understands the true foundation of dog psychology. After 6 months of training my dog would walk with me properly. He will sit, lay down and stay. He doesn’t want to run out of the door when it’s open. I didn’t think it was possible for him to be so good. I 100 percent recommend this academy. They know their stuff.
