About Salty Dogs Obedience & Adventure
Educating dogs and empowering owners throughout the Blue Hill Peninsula, Ellsworth/MDI, Belfast and Downeast Maine. Founded by Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, Whitney Thurston, our focus is on quality training that helps you truly connect with your dog. We offer general obedience training and group classes as well as day training and customized private training plans. Additionally, Whitney Thurston, CDBC, is one of the only certified dog behaviorists in Maine and is able to help with behavior modification for aggressive and fearful behavior dogs.

I was very pleased to find a trainer in our area that used positive reinforcement as the training method. Our family has always belonged to a basenji or two and that is the only training they will consistently respond to. Thank you Salty Dog for using a method that works for all breeds and not relying on brutish method to frighten and Intimidate a dog. After all, they are members of our family.
Whitney and Salty Dogs are the reason my reactive pet can now go on hikes. Fantastic, patient, pain-free training, and such useful advice and handouts and even a FB group for reactive dogs to support me beyond the lessons. Coco is at doggy camp right now, able to go on hikes with other dogs, thanks to this training.

I have so far taken three classes with Salty Dogs with my puppy Quill. He is a rambunctious German shepherd mix and working with Whitney has been great. She meets us where we are and her advice has really helped as I work with my growing puppy. He is 95 lb at barely 11 months old so training is so important. She knows how to make you feel confident and comfortable. It can be easy to feel embarrassed over your dog's less then ideal behavior but she always puts everyone at ease. She is great at helping problem solve behavioral issues that crop up with a growing puppy. I would recommend Salty Dogs to anyone and I am happy to be working with her.

I love this company and it’s trained SO SO SO SO much! Not only is the main trainer, Whitney, educated, skilled, and passionate about dogs, but she is very invested in the owners, too. She cares enough about both owner and dog to be honest with you, even if it’s not what you may want to hear at the time. I appreciate that she isn’t a sellout and tells the truth about what you and your dog truly need because she wants you both to have long term success and get what you pay for. If you’ve lived in the Downeast Area/Penobscot or Hancock county area/Blue Hill Peninsula area long enough, you will begin to notice that basically everybody with a well-behaved and thriving dog has been to at least one class at Salty Dogs. It’s just facts. If you love your dog and want that dog to thrive long term, I recommend doing a class with this company. ❤️
