Russell K9

I hope this review helps anyone sitting on the fence or trying to find a reputable and professional dog trainer. If that’s you, please let me encourage you to do it! There are no bad dogs, there are however many well intentioned, but uneducated people raising dogs. That was me, and what I’ve learned is that I’ve been trying to communicate with my dogs like they’re human (and getting frustrated with them), when the reality is they’re not human, and it requires a whole different language! Kody at Russell K9 is absolutely amazing!! He’s not only patient and kind (with both the dogs and owners), but he’s extremely knowledgeable and professional. He really emphasizes the importance of always following through with our commands and most importantly to have fun! I’ve learned so much through this journey and honestly I feel I’m a better person for it! A little bit about us… I have 2 GSD’s; Kilo went through the 3 week and Kassie the 2 week in home training with Kody. To say these two are better is an understatement! Kilo (4.5yrs old) who was reactive/aggressive is now able to go on walks and be around other people and dogs 🤯. Kassie (my 1yr old velociraptor, lol) is still all puppy, but now she’s listening and following commands, where before she pretty much ignored me and drove me crazy 🤪. In conclusion, I just want to say that I’m truly grateful to Kody and so thankful I made the right decision to go through Russell K9 dog training!

We (the Biloxi Shuckers) adopted two puppies from the Humane Society in April of 2024 to become our team dogs. We had some pretty specific things we were looking for in whoever led their training. I was recommended Russell K9 by so many different people. After a couple of conversations with Kody and Jockson, we had the plan in place and were on the waiting list. There's a waiting list for a reason. They are so incredibly good at what they do. "The Boys" (Barqs & Shuck) are so much better behaved and attentive when we are correcting them; from down to heel to place to "break". Not only were they great trainers, but they are patient and mindful of the fact that we had no clue what were doing and had to train ourselves to maximize their new skills. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and are proud to say that Barqs & Shuck had the absolute best training on the Coast. They are well worth the time and investment. Biloxi Shuckers approved!

Kody was a huge help in correcting my dog’s behavior with severe separation anxiety and his hatred for cats. My dog Duke was a rescue who had run through 6 families in his first two years of life and had severe separation anxiety when I adopted him. I was able to train him to remain calm over a couple months but when I moved to Mississippi it reset Duke to ground zero and took forever to get him comfortable being alone again. We went from Duke ripping apart beds and peeing on his bed when being left in the kennel to me being able to leave him outside the kennel at home by himself for 12 hours with no issues at all. On top of that, Duke has always hated cats and when he saw them, there was no way at all for me to draw his attention back to me. With Kody’s help, I can now get Duke to lay down right in front of cats without him going nuts trying to go after the cat. The best part of this training was that Kody didn’t just teach Duke how to behave but gave me all the tools I need to support Duke in uncomfortable situations.

I can’t recommend Russell K9 highly enough. I did a lot of research (including recommendations from friends) before deciding on them. Our two dogs (a German Shepherd and a Malinois) just graduated from their 2 week in public training program and we are so pleased! They were good dogs but definitely needed guidance and training. Russell K9 did an amazing job training them. They addressed all our concerns and taught them obedience commands, recall, door manners, how to act in public settings and leash training. More importantly they trained them in a humane and loving manner. They take the dogs into their home and treat them like their dogs. We received daily videos showing us their progress and then a 2 hour training session for us when we picked them up. Plus they’ll help you with any questions or concerns after they graduated. Definitely the best trainers on the Coast!
