We appreciate constructive feedback as we always work to exceed our client’s expectations. We understand how frustrating it is when your dog is reactive, & you can't fix it. Success in training requires owners that are willing to take input from the trainer & apply what they’ve learned on their own between the training sessions. Craig Fratt & Michelle Amado’s dog Bruno, an 8-month-old Bull Terrier struggles with reactivity to humans, other dogs, & cars. Ruff House recommended private training sessions to help Bruno deal with his reactivity. After agreeing to our terms and conditions Craig & Michelle purchased a 5-session, private training package in Sept 2021. After the second private session & at their insistence, Ruff House agreed to let Bruno try our Fungility group training class. The class is held in a large outdoor space, & we thought the outdoor setting might mitigate Bruno’s reactivity issues. Midway through that class they paid for two additional group classes (Basic Obedience and Novice Tricks,) both of which are held indoors. Our indoor classes can’t accommodate reactive dogs without disrupting the training experience of our other students. Unfortunately, as the outdoor group class progressed Bruno’s reactivity increased. We had no choice but to tell them that the indoor basic obedience class would be too challenging for Bruno, & they agreed with us. We provided them a full refund for the basic obedience class. During this same time and after numerous attempts we were unable to get them to commit to a date & time for Bruno’s fifth private session. Their response was they would rather save the fifth session to work on any issues that might come up during the remainder of the outdoor group class. Also, Craig refused to utilize our proven training techniques, the same ones we have used to solve reactivity issues in hundreds of other dogs. Instead, he insisted on using leash & verbal corrections and verbal praise. Ruff House held out hope for Bruno’s success in the upcoming Novice Tricks Class since the class is a bit more laid back, has fewer students and is arranged in way that could provide Bruno a chance to succeed in the class. In the hours prior to the tricks class Craig texted saying “…..we have a problem with Bruno” & followed with another saying “Bruno’s been getting worse with his behavior issues & I think he is going to be disruptive.” Additionally, that same morning he send an email asking for a refund for the tricks class. Despite their same-day cancellation for this class, Ruff House again provided a full refund to them. After they received the refund check for the basic obedience class, bank records show that Craig signed the back of the check & deposited it into his bank account. Shortly after the check cleared our bank Craig emailed us saying that they didn’t receive the check, that it must have been lost in the mail and demanded that we send another check. We refunded them for the tricks class via Michelle’s PayPal account, the account used to pay us for the class. After notifying them the refund was sent, Craig decided to badger numerous Ruff House employees via phone and email insisting that we confirm to which bank account we had sent the refund. PayPal records confirm the refund was received by Michelle’s PayPal account. We charge $585.00 for our 5-session private training package. Were the same five sessions purchased separately they would cost $750.00. Considering they completed four sessions of the package ($600.00 value,) their unwillingness to schedule the fifth session, their overall resistance to the training process, their lack of integrity regarding the refunds provided & our cancellation and refund policies, we decided them release them as clients & not provide any further refunds. Ruff House has been more than professional, ethical, & accommodating with Craig & Michelle. We hope they can find a better training fit for Bruno.
