Red Beard Dog Training

I knew our Lande (11 month old Labrador) needed professional training but I was nervous about the entire process. I was referred to Red Beard by a friend that had already sent their dog to the two week board and train program. They raved about Brad. I was determined to find a professional trainer that would be the best fit for our girl. My Husband and I met Brad for Lande’s initial meet and greet and I knew with in the first 10 mins that we had found the right guy for the job! Lande completed the Jump Start program with Red Beard. Even in a short two days, we could see a difference in our girl. Brad and his team started Lande off with a great foundation to build upon. Brad and Haley have since meet with us countless times to work on off leash reliability, leash walking, socialization and several techniques to help channel and control Lande’s high energy. My Husband and I have learned so much through this process ourselves and we are so grateful for Brad and Haley’s patience. They haven’t stopped assisting us as we are still working through some of Lande’s stubbornness! Even with Lande’s strong will, I feel comfortable with her off leash, our walks are more enjoyable and her manners with people and food have greatly improved! I would recommend Red Beard Dog Training to anyone that only wants the best for their dog!

My dog Ted, is a very loving, loyal and smart dog. He loves to be trained and knew all the main commands (sit, down, stay, up, hold...) but he is also very protective and would leave all his knowledge behind when was distracted. Once I got pregnant his protection became more intense. I started to across the street when someone would come towards us when we’d go for walks and he could only socialize with the dogs on our family, and some he would still not allow to come close to us neither. I took him to the vet and he tried to bite him, so the vet told me: or he comes back with a muzzle, or professionally trained or you’ll have to go to a different office (this was in VA). I got him neutered thinking it’d help but he was almost 3 years already so the vet told me I shouldn’t expect much of a change on his behavior with just that and in fact it didn’t change at all. But we were dealing with it, until end of September when my in laws came to visit me and our new son, and after more than 24 hours staying at our house, and ted knew them since he was a puppy, ted ended up biting my sister in law, who is 9 years old. We did not see that coming at all. So I talked to Brad. I though it was very expensive for something we didn’t know if it would work or not. Like if it was 100% sure he’d not ever bite someone again, I’d sign up right away with no doubt. But without any idea if it’d work or not, i was very skeptical. So I talked to a few other trainers around the area, some would tell me it’d not do anything if he was aggressive to a child, some would tell me the only thing they could do was the same type of thing. Until I finally talked to a behaviorist who told me the only thing that could be done besides that type of training was get him under medications. That’s when I came to agree to the training with Brad, because I felt comfortable with him and his dog Dexter when we met and I realized the only type of thing that could work besides medication (which i was against) was that, an intensive training. Now, I’m so glad we did it. Ted is now pretty reliable off leash, and when he’s on a leash and without distractions he doesn’t pull at all. With distractions, he can pull but I can fix it easily - while pushing a stroller! He is also able to stay in place with our doors opened with no issue, while before he’d take off from time to time. Finally, he’s also able to tolerate the muzzle that i put on him when i have family or friends over so i can feel more comfortable. Ted has a lot of work still, he is still very insecure and still overreacts to other dogs when we go outdoors, but Brad has taught us a lot that we have been working with Ted on daily basis. Also during the pack walks we are able to work with him too and get any questions answered. Brad has offered multiple times if we need extra hours of work but so far it seems like we are being able to handle and work with him ourselves just by what he taught us. Brad has been extremely helpful with Ted’s training, he’s very easy to get ahold of if we have questions, he’s easy to understand, and he has been able to answer all the questions we came up with. I can’t be more glad we did this training! I’m recommending to everybody!!

My mind is literally blown! We got Aurora from a shelter, who was an owner surrender for jumping fences. When we took her out to the play yard at the shelter she was so well behaved, perfect balance of curiosity, sniffing other dogs, paying attention to us etc. We hit the jack pot! WELL, when we got her home is was VERY evident that she was in fact, not a fence jumper, just plain WILD! She is very stubborn, strong willed, intense, a total jerk with other dogs, unable to walk on a leash, dashed and would not come when we called, and it goes on. We decided that there was a diamond in the rough because she is extremely smart and SO sweet. We made the decision to send her to the two week board and train with Brad and Haylee. It is the best money we ever spent. We can walk her on the leash, she comes when called, stays in place, and is in general way calmer. I'm so excited to spend our lives together and having FUN! Our Catahoula mix Raylan was anxious and cried or would bark when he sensed other dogs in the area. He did not even have to see them to be upset. As hard as that is the worst for us was he would not get in the car. At 10 months and 50 pounds we dreaded taking him anywhere. Raylan did the JumpStart program with Brad and was so much better when he got home it was amazing. Now he hops in the car and today had his first off leash experience with other dogs which was so much fun for him and us. We still have things to work on but Brad is helping us every step of the way. He is so calm and easy to work with that we can’t say enough good things about Red Beard Dog Training.

We live in Winston Salem and used Red Beard Dog Training for our 1.5 year old brown lab mix, Poppy. Our biggest challenge with Poppy was her getting overly excited when we had guests over to the point where she would invade their space and take away from the hosting experience. Trainer, Haley, did an amazing job with Poppy, teaching her “place,” so that now when we have guests, poppy patiently waits on her dog bed until her excitement has passed and when released, she calmly says hello to guests in her own way. Haley also trained her to leash walk and “come” really well. We highly recommend Red Beard Dog Training for Winston Salem residents!
