Melita is a fantastic trainer. She has a fun, high-energy style and a positive, pragmatic training approach; she also is particularly attuned to the dog’s needs and is always kind in her interactions. Melita customizes her instruction to your dog and to each individual person in your family, including kids. She makes the training process enjoyable for everyone and provides clear instruction, constructive feedback, and very well organized printed materials in case you have questions between sessions or to reference later. Melita also ensures you and your dog are prepared for real-life situations (crowds, walks, interacting with other dogs, going into stores), is broadly knowledgeable and evidence-based in her methods, and is very flexible with scheduling. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for assistance training their dog.

We adopted a 2 year old Sheltie who had little previous exposure to people or other dogs. We could not walk down the street without our dog barking and behaving poorly. Melita trained us how to train her by offering positive rewards for not barking. Now, we can walk down the street and our dog is much calmer. She also demonstrated to us basic training that teaches our dog self control at home. Melita really transformed our dog-owning experience. We were second-guessing our entire decision to adopt and she patiently taught us how to manage our dog in a positive way. Now, our dog Emily is really an irreplaceable member of our family!

Melita is a seasoned professional with dogs. She is reassuring and calm, and knows dogs like no one else. She was able to effectively coach me through me the early months with my new pup, and because of her, I have a great listener! I am glad to have hired her, she gave me lots of tools, including how to train basic on the commands, extend them to outdoors, and she always used positive reinforcements so it was great fun for my kids to train the pup as well. Bridie and I highly recommend Melita Wright of Promising Pups. When we moved to a new home on a farm, Bridie had some adjustment issues. Our very well-behaved girl simply could not contain her excitement over the horses who lived in her yard! And while she was never really a jumper, she was had begun rushing guests upon arrival. We also worried that she might take off after some wild animal in our very rural new home. We worked with Melita on basic sit, come, settle, stay and worked on the ultimate emergency return call which in Bridie's case is a loud "woo, woo, woo, woo....." I am not sure how my neighbors enjoy it, but it works with Bridie! Melita has a great sense of fun while maintaining a very professional demeanor while training. We enjoyed her visits and working with her.
