Pond Hollow Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

Please do not purchase a puppy from this breeder. Three years ago in March, my family and I purchased a puppy from her. When that puppy was six months old, he developed a life threatening autoimmune form of meningitis. Within those few months, two other puppies from that same litter developed the same issue and nearly died. Having three puppies in one litter become very sick from an uncommon disease is unusual, and therefore not a coincidence. We spent around $30,000 on our puppy’s vet bills at top vet facilities to treat his condition, as did his litter mates’ parents. We eventually found that prednisone treated it, but the amount of prednisone he was on caused him to develop Addison’s disease, which he died from suddenly at 3 years old. It is obviously uncommon for dogs to die at 3 years old from medical issues like these, and he would have never developed Addison’s if not for the meningitis, which again, I believe is a breeding flaw because of its prevalence in the litter. He was a great dog and we loved him very much, and we are deeply saddened by how traumatic his short life was. Diane expressed no apologies or sympathy when we told her about this issue originally 2 years ago, and even less when we told her he had passed. I don’t believe she should ever be allowed to sell another puppy again, lest another family spend $30,000 on vet bills only to traumatically lose their dog at a young age. I am sure she will reply to this comment denying it, but you might take a look at her other reviews and notice accountability is not her strong suit. I am sharing this because I think that prospective buyers should know the full truth.

I want to start off by saying, our dog wasn't purchased from pond hollow directly but she is from Pond Hollow lines. Her Sire is: Pond Hollow Jackson Hole SH Her Dam is: Hope Springs Tugboat This review is going to anger the owners of pond Hollow but I'm leaving it anyway because I feel they should be fully aware of what some of the dogs from there lines are going through! We bought a female in December of 2015 from Great lakes Chesapeakes. I will also say we were warned not to rush into buying a pond Hollow puppy by several other breeders. About 9 months after we purchased her we started noticing that her hair was falling out and not coming back in. I contacted the breeder and was told to try "Hair on the doorknob". We did this for about 4 months without seeing any difference. I tried to reconnect with the breeder who quit taking my phone calls. Finally we took her to the vet, who ran a bunch of test including a hair test for genetic alopecia. Which came back as to what it was: Genetic Alopecia. Now back to the other breeders, we was warned by several other breeders that Pond Hollow dogs are known for genetic alopecia. Because of this issue, we have NEVER been able to use her for what she was intended for, which is waterfowl hunting. Everything else about her is very true to the breed. She has duel hunting titles but again we can't hunt her like we hoped for. I would seriously hope that this issue has been brought to Pond Hollow owners and over the years, been bred out of these amazing, loyal, protective, loving, beautiful dogs. If not, then you are now aware of what we have been battling with our fur baby and we obviously aren't alone since I was warned by other breeders Also, I noticed on your website that this dog is still listed for stud. While his coat looks amazing, my dog is his daughter and has genetic alopecia. I am genuinely curious as to how many other people have affected dogs out of this sire. UPDATE: Owner of Pond Hollow responded back and Blamed it on the damn. Funny how they glossed over that I was warned about pond hollow lines having genetic hair issues but nothing was said about hope springs lines. It's always convenient to point blame on someone else. Also every pup from my dogs litter were all breed standard colors including my girl(dark brown). Again, I was warned about Pond Hollow lines from several other breeders. Those same breeders never mentioned Hope Springs. UPDATE #2: So per pond hollows request, I did some research and digging into my dogs dam because the owner of pond Hollow said they are known to breed dilute. So come to find out Tugboats parents weren't bred at that time for dilute so Tugboat winning colors DOES NOT carry the dilute issue. Tugboats grand parents weren't bred for dilute either. So that theory of it begin a dilute issue is absolutely false! Again, I was warned about pond hollow dogs having alopecia issues but I was young and dumb and didn't listen. I am warning other to please do your research into ANY dog from ANY breeder to make sure there is zero history of genetic issues of any kind! Now my question is to you, if what you say was even remotely true, then why on earth would you breed to someone who doesn't adhere to bred standard? I have done enough research to know that there are several pond hollow dogs within Hope Springs lines. So again, if they truly breed dilute, why would you breed to them knowing they aren't adhering to breed standard and the problems that could follow for owners like me?

Dyanne ruined my gog's lineage by breeding witt the best ever, Eastern Waters Chesapeake. Just lost our boy yesterday on his birthday 😭😡 gawd forbid she sell me a sound pup pet only no papers.Our chessies we're family, loyal and true to the end. Have had cbrs over 35 years now. Can't afford now. All for profit dirty Brown barn dogs. Ours we're ho use pets Dynne not a pleasant person👹 use pets loyal to the end. RIP
