Peak K-9 Dog Training

Melanie with K9 has completely changed my life. I received my German shepherd from a prison program to be my service dog, for my PTSD. It was a short time after receiving him that Kevin, my dog, started to become reactive to other dogs. I enrolled him in another service dog program but they failed to get him to not be so reactive. This now became a serious problem for me and caused me to isolate, rather than go out in public. Walks were more like brawls, usually leaving me on the ground. The best decision we made was to enroll Kevin into the board and train program. Kevin came out of that program like a new dog. He’s no longer reactive and now has become a true service dog. He’s goes everywhere with me. I feel confident with him. Whether it’s at a store or off leash on a trail, I can trust he’s by my side. We make a great team.

Melanie is the best of the best. We got our sweetest dog yet, Banks, who only wanted to be sweet to us. He had reactivity towards people and dogs, unable to chill, constantly squeaking, and it felt like we could exercise him all day and he still had anxiety. We started with a corporate-feel dog training facility that focused only on obedience in a group setting and it went horribly. He came out of a 5 week program worse and we felt like he was unable to live up to strict obedience standards they tried to instill in him. He also disliked almost all the trainers there and I think they disliked him (he was a lot lol). A friend recommended Melanie to me and I knew from our first phone consultation it would be a better fit. Banks instantly liked her (she is the first person he didn’t freak out at while meeting) and that really set the tone because both me and him could trust her! She personalized his training to match his personality and quirks. We did some private lessons which helped so much, then the board and train program really was the final piece Banks needed to connect all the dots. Banks is now calm, barely squeaks, listens well, can meet new people and dogs, and most importantly trusts us to guide him in new situations. Banks is not perfect, but she helped me realize he doesn’t need to be in order to be happy and well behaved. We also got another dog in the middle of his private lessons (don’t ask me why lol), Juniper, who was just a crazy puppy with no manners. Melanie easily trained her to be a mostly-law-abiding citizen in a few short weeks, which I’m also so grateful for. We now have two wild, but well-trained pups who can be chaotic when they are allowed to be, and rein it in when they need to. The dogs also love each other and she made sure they were trained together, but as different dogs because they are not one-size-fits-all. When I tell you I appreciate how curated her training is to each dog, I mean it. Too many trainers are doing the same thing for every dog as if they’re cut from the same cloth. Melanie will meet your dog wherever it’s at! Just hire Melanie and ignore any other trainer out there; I could’ve saved thousands of dollars, headaches, and tears if I just went with her first!

Peak K9 has given our dog Peach a whole new life! Peach had a lot of new people reactivity and dog reactivity. The main focus of having Peach do a board and train was to help her get past the fear of new people and also allow us as the owners to become more comfortable bringing new people into peach’s world. Throughout the board and train program, we got constant updates, sessions with Melanie and Matt and also great lessons on how to further our training in the future with our dog. Peak K9 has an excellent program and really focuses on the individual dog for personalized training and success. The focus on real goals instead of strictly obedience was very important to us. We could not have asked for a better result from the program. We also really appreciate the continued follow up after the program and the opportunity for more training if needed. Couldn’t recommend Peak K9 more to everyone but especially the behavioral doggos!

Melanie made such a tremendous difference in our lives with our menace of a puppy, Wallace. She taught us the power of play, trust, and a concrete structure to build our relationship up and create our dream dog. He is so sweet, playful, curious, and now fully appreciates sunny naps all day long. Where other trainers feared Wallace's reactive tendencies, she believed in him and built him up. Thank you a million times over, Melanie is truly the best.

Peak K-9 has helped me and my pup in so many ways! My Addi girl was terrified of every noise, but what scared her the most was being outside. Every time she would step paw outside she would be down to the ground with her nails digging into the ground doing anything to get back inside immediately. Getting her to go to the bathroom was the biggest struggle. I had to drive her to a park multiple times a day where she would circle my car endlessly wanting to go back inside and for a quick moment when it got silent around, she would quickly go the bathroom and then panic down to the ground to get back in the car as soon as possible. It was the most stressful situation. I tried private training sessions, puppy classes,evaluations, etc. It seemed like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. I called the shelter where I rescued her from to ask how they would handle her if I returned her. I got the response that she needs more resources then they can provide her and they would do a quick 1-2 week training rehabilitation for her and then she would be able to be adopted again. I couldn’t accept that because she was not going to be set up for success and her next owner was going to have the same issues. I posted needing a recommendation for a dog trainer and multiple people recommended Peak K-9 and I am forever grateful. Melanie accomplished what I (and many people) literally thought was impossible. Addi can now walk around outside to relieve herself. She is taking the world in a little more one day at a time. I would have not thought in a million years that I would be able to tell Addi to sit or come in the middle of a walk and for her to come and sit next to me on command. Melanie’s work with my Addi girl is so transformative. At night during Christmas Eve, I was struggling a little with my pup and Melanie called me within minutes to help me. We had a long conversation to help me through it. She also came to my home a couple of days later to continue to support and guide me. On top of it all, Melanie is a down to earth person. She makes the entire process about the customer and is very humble about her work. She communicates thoroughly throughout the entire process and does whatever she can to make things easy and convenient for the owner. Don’t think twice about reaching out to her.
