The best trainer and team around. He came to my home for beforehand to develop a training plan for my pups specifically. Even made adjustments once we started the weekly classes and behaviors we needed addressed were seen by Hector. He loves what he does, and it shows in the training, customer service and updates during the week on how they were doing. It is great to have worked with Hector and his team!! I cannot say enough good things about Paws Down Best Dog Training, Mr. Hammer, and his entire team. Today is Hershey's last day in his Service Dog Training program, and it is honestly a bittersweet feeling. Looking back at where we started compared to where Hershey is today, the transformation is incredible. My experience with Mr. Hammer actually started before Hershey even came into our lives. From our very first phone call, he took the time to understand what I needed from a service dog and guided me toward choosing the best dog for me and my family. That support continued from Hershey's first week of training all the way through the end of the program. Hershey started training at only five months old with essentially zero training. Today, he is alert, has excellent obedience, follows commands, and has developed into an amazing service dog. Watching that transformation has been incredible, and I give Mr. Hammer and his team so much credit for getting Hershey to where he is today. One of the things that stood out the most was Mr. Hammer's communication throughout the entire process. He kept us informed about Hershey's progress and always made my family and me feel welcome at his ranch. He is not only an amazing trainer but genuinely an amazing person. The dog-and-handler training sessions were another huge part of the experience. Mr. Hammer didn't just train Hershey and hand him back to us. He took the time to teach us. He explained everything in detail, demonstrated how commands should be given, corrected us when necessary, and made sure we understood how to continue reinforcing Hershey's training ourselves. After our training sessions, he would conduct an after-action review where we could openly discuss what went well, what we struggled with, and what we felt needed improvement. He used that feedback to understand exactly what his team needed to focus on so that the final outcome matched what we needed from Hershey as a service dog. I really appreciated that because it showed that the training was personalized to us rather than being a one-size-fits-all program. Mr. Hammer also has a way with animals that is difficult to explain until you see it yourself. His knowledge and ability to communicate with dogs is incredible. I don't know exactly what it is, but it is definitely a gift. Animals seem to naturally respond to him, and he makes things that seem difficult look effortless. The level of care Hershey received was also exceptional. His team made sure he was properly cared for throughout the program, and Hershey would even receive a professional wash every week before coming home. Those little details showed me that they weren't simply training my dog—they were taking care of him at the highest level. When you meet Mr. Hammer and watch him work, you can tell this isn't simply about money or running a business. The amount of time, patience, and dedication he puts into each dog speaks for itself. Mr. Hammer, thank you for everything you have done for Hershey—or "Hershal Walker," as you call him 😂. I'm extremely pleased with the outcome, and knowing that we have lifetime support from you and your team is incredibly reassuring. Today may be Hershey's last official day in the program, but I know he is ready for the task ahead because he had an amazing trainer guiding him every step of the way. I rescued an 8-year old male Golden mix (aka The Red Dog) from living underneath a portable on an abandoned campus. He weighed 55 lbs and didn't trust anyone. It took me over a month of feeding him every day to earn his trust. One day he just jumped in the car with me. But after living and surviving on his own for so long, it was evident he knew he didn't need me. He would jump fences and run away, not returning when called and worrying me to no end. I reached out to Hector at Paws Down who had worked with our two younger rescues. Today, he managed to get out the front gate and I was worried we were in for a long day worrying about where he had gone. Instead, I called his name and the command "here". He returned at a run on the first command. I can't thank Hector and the team at Paws Down for working with my stubborn, older boy. They did what we were worried might be too much to ask. BTW, Red is healthy and happy at 80 lbs. today. He went from living on the streets to rolling in the sheets as my SIL likes to say.
