On the Lamb

They moved to South Carolina after stealing a dog. We sent Robin an email asking for a herding session for a dog that was living with us. She was being trained for the owner by a dog trainer who was staying with us and we thought we'd give her a "treat" and take her herding. Robin told us to come for the session. While we were there Rachel and Megan stole the dog saying the original owner had breached the contract. I broke down crying and screaming for the dog as she had been living with us for 6 months and was being trained during Covid. Robin only cares about money as she sold the dog to the family (when they had young children under 2!!) with the understanding that they would have Robin train the dog at great monthly expense. Once Covid happened and they could not bring the dog to Robin she accused them of breach of contract. If you are reading this in South Carolina, stay away from this business. She is a cruel person who only cares about the bottom line. It's been over a year and our family is still fragmented by the trauma caused by this greedy, greedy person. I believe she's would not have stolen the dog back if she had been spayed . When we arrived they flipped her over and held her down checking for spay scars as soon as we got there. I had to ask them to stop as she was struggling. In contacting them to make them aware of the ongoing trauma they caused Rachel replied 'They are so grateful that divine providence brought the dog "back to them"' and she was sorry we were unfortunate casualties'. So be careful doing business with people who steal animals and think it's God's work. They do not care for your or the dog's emotional well-being. Update: It’s 2024 and we still miss Junie (they call her Rae). I’m sure she’s been bred many times over based on how they dipped her over to see if she had been spayed. If you buy from them anyway ask how many litters the mother has had.

Where to begin! We were referred to On The Lamb by a friend who has a three year old Border Collie. My husband is a runner and wanted a companion to run and hike with. We picked up Arcade, our new Border Collie on May 10. Before picking her up we went a couple of times to visit all of the pups that were in her litter. Robin was extremely accommodating and responsive to our many texts and emails. I highly recommend On The Lamb if you are wanting a Class A bred Border Collie or if you are looking for training.

Been taking my BC for herding lessons for a little over a month (weekly). Sign up is online and super easy! Rachel is so empathetic to my mama’s boy’s needs and he’s progressing so much every lesson! I’ve chatted with Robin also, and I’m really impressed with her deep knowledge of herding training and her philosophy that dogs should be taught by the work they were born to, where possible. The livestock (sheep and multiple birb types) are compassionately handled and well cared for. The super beginner sheep pull to the handler, not the exit, which is really important for dogs and handlers who are new to the herding experience. And it shows that the sheep trust people and aren’t soured on interacting with dogs who are still learning the difference between chase/play and real work. The facility is just a couple turns off the interstate, very easy to find. But you still get that “visit to the farm” feeling. :) I’ll be doing a week of board and train in a month or so, and I’ll add info on that experience then! Update: Nov 2023 Boarding training! My mama's boy spent a week being a farm dog and had an awesome time. He made some nice progress on his herding training, but more importantly, he got to play and socialize with some of the other nice dogs there for training. Note: it's not fancy! It's a farm! But I have a lot of experience with other farm boarding and I was impressed with the time my pupper got to hang out, out of the kennel, and be a dog. I got my pup in 2020, and he ended up getting no socialization -- so this was a really great opportunity for him! He'll be going back to "sheep camp" regularly, for sure. :)
