There are no words to accurately convey the appreciation we have for Shawna with Off The Grid K9 and her Board & Train program! We first started working with Shawna in our home with private obedience lessons. From the first meeting, we knew we had chosen the perfect trainer for Atlas and us! She was very patient and encouraging with not only Atlas, but us as well. After each session, we received a follow up email reiterating everything she introduced and what we should focus on. When we started to encounter resource guarding with Atlas, we knew we needed additional help. We reached out to Shawna once again and we enrolled Atlas in her Board and Train program. While it was difficult to leave our 7 month old Golden Retriever, we knew it was what was best for all of us. That has proven to be incredibly true! Shawna worked diligently with Atlas and I believe he worked his tail off for her as well! She would send text updates along with pictures and videos over the course of his time with her. She was always open to my questions (and still is). We were able to spend time with Shawna and Atlas at the "half -way" point in his training. I cannot begin to describe the emotions we had from seeing how far Atlas had come in 3 weeks. It reconfirmed our decision of choosing Shawna to help us. The second half of training was met with some very extreme heat conditions as well as heavy smoke from the Canadian wildfires. In true Shawna fashion, her focus was on Atlas's health and well-being, therefore, she chose to extend Atlas's training by a week until the weather cooled and the smoke cleared. This speaks volumes to her character and concern for the animals in her care. Atlas has been home now for 4 weeks. We are beyond grateful for the time Shawna has spent with our little family. Atlas is smart, obedient and a complete joy! We continue to follow Shawna's plan to ensure Atlas lives a happy, healthy and stress-free life with us. We are forever grateful!! Our dog Penny just finished the four-week board and train with Shawna, and we’re honestly so impressed. Shawna was incredibly thorough from day one, always explaining what she was working on and keeping us updated. Halfway through, she invited us to come see Penny’s progress and even practice some of the skills ourselves, which was super helpful. She also shared frequent videos, and it was clear Penny was having a great time, so many tail wags! The training facility is spotless, and Shawna consistently checked in about our specific concerns and made sure we understood each command Penny was learning. Before pickup, she sent a super detailed exit email that broke everything down clearly, and the daily schedule she created for us has made it easy to fit training into our work routines. Penny even came home with a fresh blowout and nail trim, which was such a nice bonus. Since being home, Penny has been doing amazing, and Shawna has been quick to answer any questions we’ve had. As a first-time dog owner, I’m so grateful for this whole experience; it gave me so much confidence and a better understanding of how to work with our dog. I’d absolutely recommend Shawna to anyone.

5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I cannot say enough good things about Shawna at Off the Grid K-9 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. She absolutely transformed my Aussiedoodle, Annie, into the dog I didn’t even know was possible. Annie came to Shawna with zero training — she had spent her early life running free on a farm, no real structure, no commands, and definitely no idea how to think through new situations. After board and train with Shawna, she came back to me as not only a beautifully trained dog, but as my best companion. Annie is now in the process of being trained as my personal service dog, and thanks to Shawna, she has the foundation, confidence, and obedience to take on that role with ease. Annie is sweet, smart, well-rounded, and eager to please. She knows how to settle down when we’re relaxing, and just as importantly, she knows how to gear up when it’s time for an adventure. Shawna didn’t just train Annie in the basics — she adapted the training to my actual lifestyle. I work as a contract flight paramedic, always on the road, and I spend a lot of time outdoors. Shawna made sure Annie was comfortable with that lifestyle — teaching her how to swim, retrieve, stay composed in unpredictable environments, and be flexible in the face of whatever I might come across on the road or in the field. I truly could not recommend a better trainer. Shawna is professional, intuitive, and clearly loves what she does. The care, effort, and expertise she puts into every dog she works with is unmatched.
