I recently attended one of Lisa's seminars hosted by Above the Standard Dog Training in Florida—what an amazing experience! As soon as Lisa began speaking, I knew we were in alignment. I immediately gravitated toward her background in counseling and her knowledge of animal-assisted therapy. As an educational administrator directing AAI programs in schools, finding a colleague to brainstorm with is hard to come by. One of the best parts of animal-assisted therapy is being able to learn about yourself through the lens of a dog. So much of what Lisa taught us made sense, not just in dog training but also for teaching little humans! Lisa cultivated the idea of breaking down how to teach complex tasks into smaller pieces, supporting the dog while working through it, and then putting the puzzle back together. Say less! And reinforce them as they make the right choice. What a great lesson for us as humans to learn too! I enjoyed Lisa's teaching style—clear and consistent. She provided applicable techniques and modeled how they would work with a variety of dogs. That’s the thing about dog training; there’s no cookie-cutter answer. Each dog is different. Lisa showed us how to problem-solve and break it down for each individual dog. While free shaping has always been on my radar as a trainer, I haven't had much experience with it. When Lisa explained its value—allowing a dog to think and problem-solve on their own—a lightbulb went off. As a teacher, this made sense. If you want to be an effective teacher /trainer, don’t just give the answer. Instead, provide the tools they need to figure it out on their own, while supporting and encouraging them along the way. I learned so much that I can apply to my dog training program and AAI program with the kids. They are going to LOVE the Manners Minder! 💫 What an amazing two days with an awesome trainer! I look forward to collaborating in the future.

Just had the pleasure of attending one of Lisa’s seminars. She is such an outstanding trainer and teacher. She makes dog training fun and effective. She cares so much about the process and finding the right way to communicate with the dog being trained. She was able to talk about service dog training and just regular obedience training. She took the time to answer everyone’s questions and showed a great level of patience. She worked with 8 week old puppies and adult dogs during the weekend. What was so impressive was how she kept things simple and took the time to show you what she was talking about. While some things we worked on were more challenging for the dogs, Lisa worked through each exercise and achieved awesome results. Dog training shouldn’t be complicated, it should be fun. Lisa’s reputation is 5 stars and she proved why this weekend. I will forever be grateful for the time we had with her and look forward to training with her again. Whether you want to improve your training skills or need a dog trained she should be your go too.

As another dog trainer in the industry, I’ve admired Lisa’s training from afar for a few years now. In 2023 two of my trainers were able to go to a seminar of hers in Chicago and came home with a lot of great service dog information for our team. In 2024 we set up a zoom call with Lisa to discuss one of our client’s specific needs to make sure we were doing the best job we could. And now in 2025 we just hosted Lisa for a 2 day seminar here in Florida! Lisa’s teaching style and clear communication made things easy for us to learn and try with our dogs. Her patience and knowledge and time was greatly appreciated here and has inspired all of us to keep pushing ourselves and our dogs! There are a lot of dog trainers out there in a very unregulated industry. To find another trainer who clearly cares deeply about her clients, the dogs in her program, and someone with her willingness to help us as other trainers is refreshing and rare. I can fully admit I’ve watched many of Lisa’s training videos and stayed up late at night trying to figure out not only how she’s doing what she’s doing with her dogs, but also truly admiring how happy and motivated the dogs are while working!
