Moura Stock Dogs

In August 2023 I bought a male dog from Moura because my cousin had bought a puppy from him and was really excited about their way of training and the quality of border collie they were training and also selling. When we contacted them about buying a dog Maycon said he had a fully trained male dog that would work great with sheep but he was not a cattle dog nor would he ever be a cattle dog. And if I was wanting one for sheep that the man would do me a fine job. So I purchased the male dog named POKER. With only a short video and Maycon word. And in my world a man’s word is his bond and I believe Maycon to be a man of his word. We were not going to be able to get Poker for a few weeks and was told that was no problem and they would really like for me to come a go thru the level 1 training so we would understand what we were doing and how he trained his dogs. Emma his wife let us know that they had a training class for September 22-23. So I signed up to go and was excited to see Poker face to face. But before the date arrived I tore up my right knee and was going to have surgery. Emma and Maycon were so gracious to let me bring my son in law to also take the level 1 training. Sept 21 Texas bound form Dalton GA. 13 hours later we were there. Saturday 8am I hobbled to the class with a cane and excitement. Then the class started. As we were sitting there and he was teaching us his approach to training. I thought what is he thinking, train a dog with only positive reinforcement and no negative reinforcement. No shock collars, nothing to discipline with only positive. What a waste of my time. But I had travel 13 hours, paid a lot of money for a dog so I would just go thru with the training. As we got further into his training method and the results he was getting I started to come around to the Moura way of training I learned a very valuable lesson in training dogs that I use in my every day walk of life. If your dog is doing what you want them to do because he wants to please you and loves what it’s doing is way better than it doing something in fear of what will happen if they don’t do what is asked. The dog and handler will become partners in working instead of a fight to work with them. Also don’t break the dogs spirit. Embrace their sprit. Now we’re are in the round pen. And Maycon took time with each student one on one working with different dogs on different levels. Then it was my turn but I could barely walk! Maycon said come on I want let you get hurt and he let me lean on and held me so I could not fall and spent time with me as if I was the only student he was teaching. The same way he did with each and everyone else in the class. While we were being train I saw a girl pup come in for a lady to work with and said I’m going to take that one home for my wife. At the end of the day I told Maycon I wanted the pup. But he informed me that the lady was interested in her also and she was to tell him the next day if she was going to buy her. Even though I said I would take her he was again a man of his word so I had to wait until the next day to see if I would get her are not. I called my wife so excited about this little pup and it was all I could talk about but I knew if it was meant to be I would get her if not I would not. Well as I’m writing this letter she is in the house with Poker like she owns the place full of sprit. And full of love. Back to Saturday evening after class I went to their house to do the paperwork on Poker we were invited into their home set around the kitchen table and the warmth of the Moura family was as if we had been friends our whole life. Emma his precious wife/partner/boss fixed us coffee and some Dessert. And would not take no for an answer so we had coffee and dessert. We sat and talked for a while and I said we needed to leave but they insisted for us to stay and talk longer. I can not remember a time in years that a stranger opened up their home to total strangers and made them feel like family. So in closing best money I ever spent for training and a couple dogs.

Attended the 2 day Level 1 Clinic. Maycon and Emma were great hosts. Maycons training techniques and his explanation of why and how were clear and easy to understand and follow making you successful with the dog. The finished dogs were top notch and made us all look great. The wild ones on the other hand showed us very quickly what could and would go wrong during a training period. Overall very happy and will definitely be back for Level 2 in the near future.

I recently attended a level one stock dog clinic. I also have a dog who is in training at Moura Stock Dogs. I am so happy that I was able to find Maycon Moura to not only train my dog but also myself. When I was starting out with my dog and trying to gain knowledge and information about how to train It was frustrating to me because I could not find much. I love the way that Maycon is giving the information to people through his tv show and clinics. He keeps things simple and positive for both the dogs he trains and the people he works with. Maycon uses the dogs natural instincts to work livestock and guides them through the training commands using pressure points to help the dog understand. He is a very rational trainer for both human and canine. I am so excited to learn all that I can and look forward to advancing myself and my dog through the higher level courses with Moura Stock Dogs!
