Monterey Bay Dog Training - Watsonville Training Classes

I took my dog here for training for awhile but the way they train is inappropriate. It made me feel uncomfortable watching the way they hurt dogs to make them obedient. It's not the 80's anymore and they need to update the way they treat their animals. It's scientifically proven that dogs do not need negative reinforcement training to respond to training and excessive force on a dog is nothing but abuse. The trainer Dorothy choked out my dog for not laying and staying for three minutes. He was yelping, bucking and gasping for air and yet she continued to choke my dog out. I let it happen because I figured they knew what they were doing. They told me after because I was visibly shaken by the incident that it "hurt me more than it hurt them".. however when I came home all of the blood vessels in my dogs eyes had burst. I took him to the vet later and they said he did suffer from asphyxiation. I contacted them repeatedly about the issue and was ignored from every email and call. I can't in good conscience say nothing anymore. This is an outdated dog training facility and they essentially use abuse to get your dogs to listen. Go to any positive reinforcement training instead and treat your dogs like the family they are! I'd give them a 0 if I could, this place legitimately traumatized me, I'll never get the way my dog looked at me while he was essentially fighting for his life from this "trainer" out of my head, and I regret being stupid enough to let them do that to him when he trusted me because I thought they knew what was best. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM.

I have been training my dog here with several different trainers (Luanne, Pam, Dorothy, Susan) since she was a puppy, almost 8 years ago. We have progressed through several different level of classes in obedience and agility and she is such a happy dog. I constantly get compliments on how well behaved my dog is. I also go back about 20 years to another dog who was very shy and fearful. We completed Beginning Obedience, and, even though he wasn't naturally talented, I had him almost 15 years and he never forgot heeling on leash or recall -- the two most important things your dog can do, in my opinion.
