At MLK9 Dog Training, we start by teaching parents how to communicate with their pets using clear commands and rewarding good behavior. Our training methods are based on the science of learning theory and modern, humane dog training techniques. We use positive reinforcement as our primary method of increasing your dog's motivation to learn and to behave in a way that you like better than before. We also use "reward-based punishment," which means that if your dog does something wrong that you don't want him to do, you don't punish him , instead, you simply remove the reward for a short period until he learns not to do it anymore. I cannot recommend Andy and MLK9 enough! The difference they have made in my dog has been absolutely incredible. When we started, she struggled with leash manners, reactivity, and social anxiety, which made walks and new situations stressful for both of us. With patience, knowledge, and the right training techniques, Andy and his crew helped her build confidence and learn how to navigate the world in a completely different way. Her leash manners have improved tremendously, her reactivity has decreased so much, and she is noticeably more comfortable and confident around people other dogs and doesn’t try to chase every living creature or leaf. What I appreciate most is that the training wasn’t just about teaching my dog—it taught ME how to better understand her needs and communicate with her. Andy was supportive, encouraging, and never made me feel judged. Seeing the progress she has made has been amazing. We can enjoy walks and experiences that used to feel overwhelming, and I have a much happier, more confident dog because of it. If you’re looking for a trainer who genuinely cares about dogs and their people, I wholeheartedly recommend MLK9. The results have been beyond what I hoped for, and I’m so grateful for everything they’ve done for us!

My dog recently completed a four week board and train with MLK9 and it was the best decision I could have made. Andy is kind, empathetic, and passionate about his job. His calm confidence and ability to communicate with dogs is remarkable and made such a positive impact. Thanks to Andy and his team, my GSD is responsive to commands, much more relaxed, and understands that we have behavior expectations. When Andy brought our dog home, he spent the afternoon teaching us what we needed to do to keep up his progress. He took his time, answered questions with patience, and let us know that he was always available for support/extra training. A week later, he even met us at a last minute vet appointment to help our dog with reactivity during a medical scare. While it’s difficult to separate from your pet for any length of time, the difference MLK9’s training and continued support makes is well worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We had a GREAT experience with Andy. He was so communicative and straightforward during this whole process of being away from our spunky, corgi Moose. We would definitely do this again. It was life changing when Moose came home and wasn’t nipping or herding our little kids.
