Working with Tom was amazing and a wonderful thing to do for our dogs and our family. Our dogs tended to be overly excited and very guard when guests would come over and its been a complete 180. Tom showed us how to provide structure and security to our dogs and allow them to trust us more and not be on edge. Its been great welcoming people into our homes and have them comment on how well behaved our dogs are. We are so grateful for the training experience and know we can reach out to Tom is there are any other issues that may arise with our dogs in the future. 10/10 recommend :)

I had the most excellent experience with Tom and Mid-Atlantic Dog Training. I am a first-time dog owner, and outside of basic puppy training, I didn't really know what to do or where to turn to curb my dog's unwanted behavior. A friend of mine, who got a puppy around the same time I did, recommended Tom and spoke highly of how his approach to dog training was super helpful. Tom provided me with materials to prepare for training and modeled the best practices for caring for my dog. He also followed up each visit with materials and resources to further support the work we did in our sessions. He was always an email away with questions and responded in a timely manner! He is approachable, friendly and practical. He really set me up for success with my dog. Tom really is about helping and empowering the owners - which I think I needed more than anything. He provides an approach where you are learning what to do, what to say, how to say and do that, and practice and then each session is a review and adds on more practice. I went from feeling helpless to understanding the role I play in my dog's behavior and well-being. My dog has adapted so well and the best thing is, even though I've finished training, I can still reach out to Tom and get support if needed! We had an excellent experience with Mid-Atlantic Dog Training and recommend them very highly. We adopted a five year old lab mix who had severe reactivity towards other dogs when walking - to the point that he had to avoid any possible encounters on leash. He also pulled at the end of his lead on any walk. With Tom’s training, he now walks heel beautifully and can walk past other dogs on leash without any issue or reaction. Just a few months ago this was difficult to imagine. Tom has a straightforward approach that worked very well. He is extremely knowledgeable and prepared, and provides materials to reinforce the learning. He is patient and kind - and develops easy rapport with both dog and owner in our experience. The lessons are a great value for the price as well. We found our dog’s improvement (and our own learning about how to be better owners) to be well worth it. Tom gave me hope for my 11-year-old reactive small dog when no one else did. We've worked with many trainers over the years, but Tom is the only trainer who could pinpoint our problems and give us the tools and instructions to address them. Max has shown great improvement after training with Tom—in fact, several neighbors have commented, “That is not the same dog!” You can’t ask for a bigger compliment than that.
