⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently completed Mecca’s six-class basic obedience program with my German Shepherd Athena and it was a great experience. Athena is a very smart dog with strong shepherd instincts, which also means she can be intense, vocal, and very aware of everything going on around her. I had already spent years working with her myself, but I knew we had reached a point where some professional guidance would help both of us. Before choosing a trainer I spent quite a bit of time researching different options. When I came across Mecca, her approach and philosophy immediately stood out as the right fit. What really makes her different is that she doesn’t just teach commands. She focuses on helping the handler understand why the dog is behaving a certain way and how to communicate more clearly. One thing she said that stuck with me was that she could come in and train the dog to listen to her, but that isn’t the point — the goal is for the dog to listen to you. She also does a great job of meeting the dog where they are and working with their temperament instead of trying to force a one-size-fits-all approach. Over the six sessions she helped me refine how I work with Athena on engagement, disengagement, leash handling, and reading her thresholds. The tools we’ve been working on are already making a noticeable difference on our walks and in everyday situations. Another thing I appreciated is the relationship she built with Athena. By the end of the program Athena was completely comfortable with her, which says a lot about the trust she builds with dogs. We’re planning to continue working with Mecca and move into BAT training next to keep building on the progress we’ve made. If you’re looking for someone who really understands behavior and wants the owner to learn as much as the dog does, I’d absolutely recommend working with Mecca.
