Mahonestead K9

Our Giant Goober of a dog Dante did a board and train with Zack. He is a sweet but crazy shepherd/Dane mix that needed manners and to be able to follow commands. Zack was amazing at not only working with our dog but also working with us to help guide us to be successful once we were home. Dante can now successfully walk off leash (don’t worry we long lead him in public) and people can come to our home without him incessantly barking at them once he’s redirected. I’m convinced any dog we have in the future will be training with Zack as well. It’s given us so much peace of mind and brought calm to our home.

We couldn’t be happier with the training we received! Before working with him, our Doberman, Diesel, was a handful. With two young boys always wanting to play, he would get so excited, jump all over everyone, and our house felt pretty chaotic at times. The transformation has been incredible. Diesel is so much calmer, listens so much better, and we finally feel like we can enjoy him without constant stress. The difference in our home has been huge. He was patient, knowledgeable, and took the time to teach us how to work with Diesel—not just train the dog and send him home. That made all the difference. If you’re looking for someone who truly knows dogs and wants to set both you and your dog up for success, I can’t recommend him enough. My wife, Olga, and I left Simba, our Miniature Golden Doodle with Zack for 3 weeks. When we picked Simba up 3 weeks later, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of transformation that had occurred with diminished leash pulling and being more obedient. We were even more impressed with how Zack was able to train us which was of even more concern. The programs are great value and we love the rural nature where the location is in Powhatan County. We plan to board Simba there as well for the occasional refresher training. Thank you Zack!

I am very pleased with my experience with Zac. My dachshund needed some one-on -one training after taking some group classes. He was able to work on specifically what Magnolia needed and communicate to me what my role needed to be. At times he came to my house and other times I could go to his property and expose Magnolia to the dogs he was training . He is very accessible and his prices are reasonable . Love that he is local too. 👍

Mahonestead K9 was the best decision I made for my dog. I emailed them and within 10 minutes they replied back. 30 minutes later I was on the phone with Zach and we were discussing the best treatment for my dog, Chopper. I was inquiring about the two week train and board. My dog has anxiety when left alone and he did not have a good recall. We live on lots of land and we see lots of other animals. I wanted to be able to trust my dog to come when I tell him & to avoid a potentially bad situation. Mahonestead K9 took the time to come out to my home to see my dogs everyday living style to tailor his needs before his 2 week board & train. Everything went very smoothly over the two weeks that I brought my dog there, and he came back more calm, collected, and ready to listen to me! Now, he does not pull on a leash, he does not run away when I tell him to come, he is less anxious in the house, I can take him in public without him pulling me to another dog, and most importantly my dog and I have a better relationship now more than ever. Zach provided me with the best experience I have ever had with a dog trainer. He has great advice for anything and is very reassuring. He has lots of land to run around on which I loved. I can’t recommend Mahonestead K9 enough. Chopper still goes to see Zach and his team often when I need to board him, which my dog loves.
