Macatawa Dog Training

Our experience at Macatawa Dog Training has literally been life changing for our household! We have a border collie. He is very smart but also neurotic and fearful of certain things. We did a consult with Erin and decided to do play and train, which involves two weeks of training followed by playing with the other dogs in the daycare. He was 1 year old when we sought her services and I worried it was too late to correct his behaviors. Erin curated a program and list of commands for our boy to work on throughout training. His overall interaction with dogs and humans has changed and it so cool to witness. He worked on walking, recall, door greets, stay, leave it, and fear of grooming tools. I learned so much from Erin throughout this process. Socializing dogs is so much more important than we originally thought so it was really great to see his progress on learning how to speak dog. Our dog will now stay in our yard and come when called. Now that we have the tools to properly communicate with him he is such a good boy. I could not praise Macatawa Dog Training enough. I started bringing my dog, Willow, to private training sessions with Erin to help with her fear of strangers and new people. Since beginning training, Willow has gained so much confidence, learned new commands, and become noticeably more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. I've received several comments from others about how much she's improved. At her most recent grooming appointment, the groomer said it was the best she's ever done and that the training has clearly paid off. I also work at a group home and bring Willow with me. We frequently have new faces coming in and out of the house. She's now much more relaxed when the residents’ guardians or anyone else stops by. Training with Erin has made a remarkable difference for Willow and for everyone who interacts with her.

If I could rate this place higher, I would! My Voodoo has been coming to this facility since November of 2024 to get daycare in and to help her socialize with humans more. Although Voodoo will probably be forever weary of new humans, I was so proud of her clear progress today. We had booked a grooming appointment with them today along with her daycare, and I was so nervous she would lash out and not be able to get the service done. But she did, with seemingly no issues! Just 3 months ago, I would have never imagined she would be able to ever successfully get a grooming done. Her grooming looks great, and I’m so happy they accommodated her! They were even able to trim her face and beard. I came home such a proud pet parent at the progress Voodoo has made in such a short time span. This facility gives your dog a chance, and is forthright on what your dog did well and not well that day. Without all of the hard work from both Voodoo and the staff at Macatawa Dog Training, I can’t imagine what my pups behavior would look like now. Thank you!!

Not only is Erin the best trainer ever, but Evia is such a wonderful groomer. She does an excellent job on our mini poodle with whatever haircut we throw at her that month. Macatawa Dog Training has all the services; grooming, daycare, training (group and private classes), puppy socials, etc. and I recommend each one! Erin is an absolute pleasure to work with and you can tell she really cares about each and every dog she sees. Plus, she’s one of the few daycares open on weekends now!
