Lucky Star Dog Training

Brought our dog Moose here for some much needed training. Forgot how difficult it can be starting from scratch with a puppy after 13 years. Moose was hard to walk on a leash, jumped on counters, tried to eat anything we accidentally left out, and even ended up in the ER vet after swallowing a rock and a ring. He was crazy but we knew he had potential. After lots of research my husband found Jen and Lucky Star. Chatting with Jen on the phone first made me really comfortable with her methods and I immediately booked her 3 week board and train. I also got a package of daycare sessions so Moose would be comfortable in her place and it was super beneficial because I felt like they already knew Moose and what he needed to work on. Picking Moose up was like we left with a different dog. He walks without a leash or on a loose leash, sits, places, stays and no longer jumps or bites. He’s such a pleasure to spend time with. He’s also so happy to work and play and lounge around. It’s like she inserted an obedience chip in his brain and we joke that he spent time in military school. I feel comfortable having people in my home and confident when we see people in public that he’ll behave and we’re all over the moon with how training went and is continuing to go. Now it’s on us as the dog parents to stay consistent! Moose is eager to get back into the weekly daycare with Lucky Star too. I like that he gets to spend supervised time with other dogs because that was a worry before Jen’s boot camp. He comes home and you can tell he had fun running around all day with his buddies. Can’t recommend Jen enough, her training program honestly changed our lives!

We adopted Naomi, our dog, from the pound. She is the sweetest dog I ever owned. However, it was border line dangerous to walk her at the park because she would literally get crazy and knock you down while pulling to get squirrels or rabbits. On the advice of a friend, we contacted Jennifer Higgins who took our dog in for three weeks and changed her behavior completely. Highly recommend lucky star! Jennifer is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled. We sent Mr. Pickles there for the 3 week board and train. She was very communicative the entire three weeks and provided detailed updates on what her and pickles were working on. Upon pick up, we spent a significant amount of time working together on how to maintain what he learned. He is able to do what we ask on command with minimal correction. She continued to follow up with us everyday and answer any questions. We are beyond impressed with her and Mr. Pickles. Jennifer- you are amazing and extremely talented. Thank you for everything!

3 Years Later Update: What a game changer. Jen and Aaron we're the best thing that happened to my relationship with my dog. Before training it was the biggest hassle to try and get this dog in his gentle leader just to get in the car and go to chickfila... after training this dog went everywhere without any issue and received compliments on his behavior right and left. Not only did it make my life easier, but it gave my dog so much more freedom to experience the world. He finally got to play frisbee out in the open, go to every store that allowed dogs (banks, restaurants, home goods, boutiques, farmers markets, wineries... you name it), traveled to several states, chased critters off leash, pose for all the pictures, ran around on the beach. All things that would not have been even remotely plausible before. If you're looking to make a massive impact in your relationship with your dog, and both of yall's quality of life... Lucky Star is the place you need. Original Review: I adopted my dog a little over a year ago from a shelter here in Austin. He was great on the gentle leader, but he hated it, and as soon as you took it off he would pull and lunge to see other dogs. It made going on walks hard because he was miserable, and he’d stop and roll in the grass to get it off, or we’d go out in a font-lead harness and he’d be overly excited every time something went by. So, I decided I wanted to get him trained to be off-leash! After looking around for a while, I reached out to Lucky Star and chatted with Jen about what I was looking for, and my concerns with my dog having a laundry list of medical issues, and she happily explained everything, and answered all my questions! Jen and Aaron were great during the whole process. Jen sent me pictures and kept me updated on my dog’s progress during the 3 weeks he was in training. When I picked him up Jen worked with me to show me how to work through the commands. No matter how many questions or scenarios I had, she was more than excited to show me what to do in those cases. The follow ups afterward are also excellent! I never feel bad about reaching out and asking “hey, this happened, what’s the best way to proceed?” By this point you’re probably asking yourself, “Cool, the team is great, sold on them… but how’s your dog off leash?!” Ladies and gents, people of all ages, and folks watching around the world… this dog is awesome. The first thing I did was call my best friend and tell him that the first walk my dog and I went on was the best dog-walking experience I’ve ever had. We just stroll down the sidewalk doing our thing… no one holding a leash. If you’re on the fence about e-collar training like I was, it’s definitely not scary like it sounds. I tried it myself before I let it near my dog, and it’s a stimulation (ie. you feel something), not a shock (but it’s not painful). Still worried? Test it for yourself. If you’re dog’s like mine, and will do anything for a treat, but once the snacks are gone could care less… then the collar training is probably the way to go. I would definitely send anyone looking for off leash training to Lucky Star.
