My dog went after my roommate’s dog and I got bit in the process & he had to change. There are multiple reasons I chose Lee. 1. I didn’t want a massive facility with tons of dogs, I wanted to know my dog would get individual training time from one person. 2. I wanted someone who knew the stress of an untrained dog. Lee’s story of his own dog gave me comfort in knowing that he had gone through it. 3. I wanted someone I felt I could trust to truly care for my dog and not abuse him. From the start, Lee provided clear communication regarding what he thought would be best for my dog. Where most trainers would try to sell you the most expensive option, Lee didn’t do that. I had to reschedule the start of my dog’s training due to him being sick and that was no issue. During the time my dog was under Lee’s care, he responded to every single check in text I sent. He communicated about my dog not wanting to eat (not shocked, I expected this) and his concern that he was losing some weight. We worked out how to try to fix this together. The walk through at pickup was amazing. I love the app access to learn while my dog was away & to have reminders of how to implement at home. Now, because I’ve read some negative reviews, I want to share the less “ideal” parts. Not bad, just the bits that are worth noting. 1. My dog did lose weight while there. I expected this. It was clearly explained the waivers I signed. He isn’t emaciated, he actually is probably a lot healthier now. Plus, as noted before, Lee and I discussed my dog not wanting to eat for over a week of his 2 week training. 2. I did notice an increase in water intake following pickup and the first few days at home. Likely a combo of being in the boarding setting, extremely hot temperatures, and increased training. Some potential dehydration likely also led to the weight loss. 3. My dog does have some red/raw spots on his legs and some redness around his eyes. I didn’t fully notice until we left and texted Lee when I got home just to check. He noted it didn’t start until he had given my dog a bath and suspected allergies. I have a pittie and, well, they are known to have allergies. 4. Yes, like some reviews note, my dog acted different when I picked him up and got home. He was tired and somewhat withdrawn, I expected this as it was in the waivers & is expected for an intense training. A couple days in and he’s back to higher (but controlled ) energy. The positives: 1. My dog is mellow and chill. He’s just happy to be with his people. 2. Literally on day one he followed commands without me even saying the word. He follows me without asking but stays when I tell him to. I don’t need to repeat myself over and over at home. I say the word once and he obeys. (Maybe 2-3 times with a small correction). This is VERY different than it was before. 3. A couple days after being home I noticed needing to correct him even less. Actually, I let him come out to bring in trash and recycling bins like we used to. The difference was that without telling him to, he stopped at the edge of the garage and waited for me to walk to the curb and come back. 4. My dog was a BARKER. Like make me scream at the top of my lungs to try to get him to stop. It made me crazy. He laid in our front bedroom today for 4-5 hours and I heard him bark one time (when trash was being collected). That’s it. It used to be hours on end. 5. I feel like I can breathe again. I feel confident that I will have many more peaceful and safe years with my boy. I’m grateful for that. Clearly if you’re reading reviews you’re looking to make sure your dog is safe and cared for while also knowing they will be trained. You don’t want to traumatize or hurt your dog or waste your money. Lee will keep your dog as safe as possible and train to the best of his ability, but it’s up to you to implement the program at home. If you do, you’ll have a well behaved dog who respects you and it will only add to your life. It’s only been 2.5 days for me and I feel like my life is completely different.
