Our recently adopted heeler mix had major issues with anxiety and reactivity. Enough so that as the shelter staff handed me the leash to walk him out the door, they also handed me a bottle of Prozac. We almost changed our minds about him, but decided that we can handle him. Well, it became apparent that he was beyond our abilities. As time went on, he was showing he was a biter and started attacking other dogs (no injuries, thank goodness). He was becoming dangerous! So worried about liability, I’m now ashamed to admit that I had decided to put him down. Through many tears, because Jax and I had become very attached to each other, I searched online for help, desperately seeking hope that would prevent me from making THAT appointment with the vet. That’s when I found Trisha. After several conversations with her, I realized that the idea of investing $$ in training hurt my heart so much less than the thought of letting him go, so we decided to send him to “rehab”. Upon drop-off, he exited my car growling and very nervous. I worried about leaving him, as well as the well-being of Trisha, her family, and other dogs he may encounter while in her care. Trisha was excellent at keeping in touch with me on his progress, as well as posting videos of the training sessions. The progress I saw was amazing! After 4 weeks of training, he won the hearts of Trisha’s family and pets, and came home a happier and less stressed dog. He and I both have benefitted greatly from Trisha’s expertise. Being a heeler with some attitude, he does still need gentle reminders (he’s been back only about 2 weeks), he’s been taught to allow me to be the leader. Trisha was even able to wean him off his medication. He will likely always be a work in progress, as he keeps me on my toes, but I’m looking forward to continued relationship building with my buddy through a solid routine consisting of structure, leadership, discipline and known expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend Trisha for your dog training needs. She truly cares, and you won’t be disappointed.
