K9 Manners & More

When I found K9 Manners and More, I didn’t expect to look forward to weekly dog training sessions for the next two years. It’s rare to find a trainer with Tibetan Mastiff (TM) experience; this ancient guard breed is difficult to train and motivate. K9 Manners and More took on our challenge! I expected to put our young TM Zaya through some puppy obedience and a few months of private classes to learn to show in conformation and maybe come back occasionally for some tweaks. Then we started our classes and I learned that my dogs have so much more to offer me, and I have so much more to offer my dogs! With the team at K9 Manners and more, especially Kim, I’ve been exposed to learning how to read my dogs’ body language, Zaya the Tibetan Mastiff (TM) has found that she loves learning, and many of our Tibetan Mastiff friends have discovered that they too can achieve new heights in the show ring and earn AKC awards and certificates that our breed is simply not known for. At two years old, Zaya has not only earned her AKC Grand Champion title, but she’s also earned STAR Puppy Obedience, Novice Trick Dog, Canine Good Citizen, Farm Dog Certification, as well as passing her temperament test, and working as both a therapy dog and my service dog. Last year —the first year either of us had been in the show ring—she ranked as the number 7 owner handled TM in the country. She took a Group 3 in the Regional Owner Handler series for 2026. I had never even been to a dog show before I met our trainer, Kim. When TM breeders and owners saw the great success that we were having with Zaya, I began inviting others to join us. Kim now has experience with at least 10 Tibetan Mastiffs, including dogs that are fearful and/or reactive, has coached a TM that took an Award of Merit at Westminster 2026, and has brought out the best in every dog she’s trained. Calm, knowledgeable, and highly educated, Kim instinctively understands what our dogs and handlers need to find success in the show ring, sports, daily life, and anything else we’ve come up with to enrich both their lives and ours. Kim is not a one size fits all trainer. Whether she’s working with my TM’s, our Shih Tzu, or the Czechoslovakian Vlciaks I was privileged to help show, Kim’s assessment of the needs for both dogs and handlers is brilliant. Started working with Kim for my fearful heeler rescue. In 3 sessions my LeeLoo has made BIG improvements. I know that each doggo learns at their own pace, but I am so happy! Kim is patient, explains the what and why. I have learned to better read my dogs behavior....all the folks at the training center are gracious dog lovers! Its a great facility as well! I am excited to continue and see my LeeLoo gain confidence!
