While we primarily use the e-Collar, there are a variety of other tools available when necessary, such as buckle collars, martingales, prong collars, and others. We also use food, toys and clickers for motivation and reward. Dog training, like most things, requires balance, and we reward dogs for good behaviors along with correcting unhealthy habits.

Our training facility and programs are designed with dog training and behavior modification in mind. While your dog is in our care, training takes place any time he or she is out of the private suite. Every day and every activity the dogs are involved in are carefully planned and structured around dog training. The dogs are expected to behave, be respectful, and always have good manners, ensuring that their training is consistent. There is a lot of playtime with other dogs and with people, but even during play the dogs are expected to have good behavior, thus their training is reinforced in natural and delightful ways.

We have never had a dog become shyer, more nervous or more fearful after completing my training programs. In fact, the opposite is nearly always the case. Dogs who are shy become exuberant; dogs who are nervous gain confidence; and dogs who are fearful gain courage. The e-Collar allows dogs to learn how to relax, have fun and enjoy being dogs. This frequently leads to newfound confidence and calmness. It still delights us to watch dogs who were once labeled as fearful become dogs who are the first to greet new training dogs, approach strangers, or lay calmly in a busy public place. Becoming your dog’s leader, with the use of the e-Collar and our training programs, gives your pet the assurance of always knowing what to expect, and of understanding what you expect. This elimination of confusion and uncertainty is often all that is required to allow a dog to relax and enjoy being a dog. We have never seen an e-Collar make a dog’s temperament or habits worsen.

While we cannot guarantee that your dog will listen 100% reliably once his or her training is over, the dogs that complete our training programs consistently demonstrate remarkable improvements in their behavior. A well-trained dog should remain responsive if the owner remains consistent, and no health or confusing environmental issues arise to distract the animal. Additionally, all programs grant you paid access to our weekly group class designed exclusively for our graduates. We absolutely love working with multiple dog households and often do so. We advise bringing all the dogs together for training, as it allows us to work towards our goal of training the dogs alongside each other. However, we acknowledge that multiple dog households can present challenges, as dogs are pack animals and influence each other’s behavior, whether positive or negative. Due to the added complexities and time involved in training multiple dogs individually and together, we do not offer a multiple pet discount. Rest assured, each dog is trained with the same level of dedication and attention. We only use the ‘momentary’ and ‘constant’ stimulation buttons on the e-Collar. There are many great uses for the ‘tone’ and the ‘vibrate’ modes, but these go beyond the degree of training our programs are designed to offer. If a dog is trained with only the ‘vibrate’ mode the untrained owner will have no other options if the pets suddenly decides not to respond. We train dogs with the stimulation of the e-Collar so we can be assured that they will continue to listen and respond to their owners even in unfamiliar and distracting circumstances.

While we would never absolutely forbid a visit while your dog is undergoing training, it is in the dog’s best interest if you can refrain. It is important for the dog to temporarily bond with us and look to us to meet his or her needs during the stay with us. If you come and go, the dog is more likely to worry and fret over you, negatively affecting its sense of well-being and ability to respond in a relaxed, natural manner. You can be assured that your pet will receive a great deal of attention and affection while in our care, and you will be sent picture texts and videos to keep you up to date with what he or she is doing and learning.

The primary tool that we use is the e-Collar, as, in our experience, has proven to deliver the best results. The e-Collar, by avoiding any delay between the offense and the correction, prevents confusion and uncertainty in dogs about what is expected from them. It also avoids the emotional stress to persons or pets that physical punishment often incurs. E-collars meet the stringent standards of professionals who are deeply concerned about the health and safety of the animals they work with. Unlike most traditional “shock collars” e-Collars use a form of stimulus that targets the neck muscles of the dog, mimicking the training methods of their mother. The latest technology allows for a wide pulse stimulation that provides a muscle reflex response rather than the jerking response found in the narrow pulse stimulation systems of old-style ‘shock’ collars.

We strive to create a dog training program that helps you get your dog into the best possible space he or she can be in, in as short a time frame as possible. We know how difficult it is to live with a dog who doesn’t understand commands, is rude and disrespectful, or whose behaviors are less than ideal. In order to permanently resolve problems, we need to do more than just treat some of the symptoms. Getting to the root of the problem may require some patience, as well as the ability of pet owners to learn from constructive criticisms. We may ask owners to make some slight changes in the home while the dog is in training and provide some videos of their or other dogs to demonstrate how to ensure optimal responses. We will provide the tools and knowledge you will need to continue with what your dog has learned. We provide free lifetime support, as well as an ongoing weekly improvement class that helps to refresh the dogs’ new skills if necessary.

Dogs with a serious bite history of either people or other dogs are often not a good fit for our programs. That is not to say that we do not work with them but we do so on a case by case basis. About 50% of the dogs we work with do nip, jump, or otherwise scare people, and these issues are not what are being referred to here. It is dogs who have actually bitten to hurt someone or attacked another dog and caused wounds that we will most likely be unable to assist.
