Independent K-9 L.L.C.

We have a 1.5 year old bloodhound that was starting to show serious concern for food aggression and resource guarding. Food aggression is common in bloodhounds and they are very well known for being stubborn dogs. Many would say they are untrainable due to their nature. I’ve also been told “you don’t train a bloodhound, the bloodhound trains you!” Our Bocephus is a very loved and spoiled bloodhound. He is very smart, loving, goofy, and a big cry baby. He’s also a very picky eater, I never met a dog that would turn up his nose to hot dogs, lunch meat or anything from a fast food restaurant. That being said, he would often take these given “snacks” and bury them so our other bloodhound could not have them, but if she got near his hidden snacks, he would go into defense mode. We tried training him at home ourselves but because it was so sporadic, we would not be prepared when the situation would occur. These incidents we’re becoming more frequent since everyone was being quarantined to the house, and he seemed to feel like the family was invading his space. So after much research we decided we needed to get some professional help. We contacted Independent K9 around the end of May and they got Bocephus in the first week of June. We were very impressed with Erin and Jess’s knowledge, concern and care they showed us when going over Bocephus’ bad habits. They told us about the program and how long it typically takes to work on training for the issues he was having. But remember how I said bloodhounds are stubborn? Bocephus is probably the most stubborn of them all, but also very smart. Erin and Jess would teach him his commands but then he would test them to see if he really needed to obey them. Or if he wasn’t in the mood or didn’t have any motivation to train he would show his feelings. So just to say training a bloodhound took a little longer than they originally anticipated. Erin and Jess were very good at keeping us informed and up to date on his progress. But after much determination and consistency from Erin and Jess, they finally got through Bocephus’ stubbornness. When we went in for our training with Bocephus, we could tell how much they cared and loved him even though he was being very difficult. We truly appreciated the patience they had with him and how much time they put into correcting his bad behaviors. I can’t thank them enough for how well they trained him. Erin, Jess and the rest of their team have a love for these animals and it shows. We highly recommend them for any behavioral problems or just any basic training. We look forward to sending our other bloodhound in for basic training and doing our weekly classes with them. Again, thank you so much Erin and Jess and the rest of the Independent K9 team.
