I am so thankful to have found Impactful Canine and Rick during my search for a 2nd dog trainer. I have a reactive Aussie who would pull on leashes, bark and lunge at strangers and dogs, and it was so difficult to get him out to do the things I would dream of us doing together such as going to the park or on a hike and passing people or dogs, going through a drive through, and the list goes on and on. The straightforward, honest feedback and practical training he has offered myself and my dog, Neo, have been invaluable to me. We are still a work in progress but I was really starting to doubt if I would even be where I am now. Everyone who has a reactive dog knows the daily struggle of trying to do anything at all with your dog. Gaining the ability and confidence in yourself and your dog to get back out there again (even if it isn't perfect) has been a truly amazing experience. I would 100% recommend him to anyone who owns a dog and is looking for training.

If you’ve ever loved a reactive dog, you know how easy it is to lose hope. Every outing becomes a question of, “How is this going to go?” Eventually, we stopped going almost everywhere because it just wasn’t worth the stress for either of us. When I first reached out to Rick, I honestly didn’t have much hope. I loved Zeus enough that I had to try something, but I wasn’t sure how much progress was even possible. He helped me understand why Zeus was reacting the way he was and gave me practical tools that actually made sense. Every exercise had a purpose, and he always took the time to explain what we were working toward. That gave me the confidence to carry that work into everyday life when it was just Zeus and me. Today, we’re doing things I never imagined we’d be able to do. Zeus has walked through stores without a muzzle, explored new places, and instead of constantly scanning the environment, I get to see his goofy, happy expressions again. He’s become more playful, more confident, and has an energy I haven’t seen in years. Watching Zeus enjoy life instead of simply managing it has been one of the greatest gifts. One of the moments that truly showed me how far we’d come happened during a recent vet appointment. The veterinary team felt comfortable removing Zeus’s muzzle during his exam - and even considered leaving it off because he was doing so well! He completed a full exam and an ultrasound with only very light sedation, and for the first time, we made it through an entire veterinary visit without a single reactive moment! Months ago, I couldn’t have imagined writing that sentence. Progress with a reactive dog isn’t one big breakthrough, it’s hundreds of little victories that slowly give you your life back. If you’ve ever loved a reactive dog, you know some of those victories don’t look dramatic to anyone else, but they mean everything to you. Rick recognized and celebrated those moments with us, and over time those little victories became things I once thought were impossible. Because of Rick’s guidance, Zeus and I have a quality of life I honestly wasn’t sure was possible. He’s knowledgeable, patient, honest, and genuinely invested in helping both dogs and the people who love them. We still have more to learn, but for the first time in years, I’m excited about the journey instead of worried about what comes next. I have a 2 year old Great Pyrenees that is difficult to take on walks. He growls, barks and lunges at strange dogs and loud pickup trucks. I dreaded walking him around the neighborhood because of his behavior. I reached out to Rick with Impactful Canine Training for help. Rick noticed immediately that Henry is not an aggressive dog, but rather a fearful dog. Rick used training methods to increase Henry's confidence while also teaching him that it is unacceptable to growl, bark and lunge at dogs and trucks. I do appreciate that Rick starts with the least intrusive methods of training and works his way up until something works. Now that Rick taught me how to deal with Henry on walks, it is a much, much better experience! Rick's training methods are geared towards your specific dog and not just a standard method of training. I also appreciate that Rick would do training sessions at our house, his training facility and at unfamiliar places. We've been working with Rick at Impactful Training for our 2 year old rescue Beagle, Benson. My dog loves Rick and is excited to train. We're working on reactivity to strangers and other dogs. Rick does an amazing job making each training session individualized to what my dog needs. I used to dred seeing people and dogs on our walk. But Rick has given us the tools to enjoy walking our dog. Benson is going to be the best "everywhere dog" when we're done training.
