FirstBarkOur 7 month old German Shepherd really likes Robert and his training style. Every week we asks us what we would like to work on, and gives us good instruction when we pick him up. Robert has also given me a lot of confidence in how good our puppy is.

Which training plan is more effective?
Both training plans are very effective; it all just depends on how involved in the training you would like to be. Private training you’re involved in the entire training process and day training we take care of most of the training process for you. Then at pick up we will show you what we have done.

How old does my dog have to be to start training?
We can start in home Private dog training at anytime. If you wanted to do any in facility training with your pup. They must be at least 4 months of age!

What training methods do you use?
We are balanced trainers so we use all four quadrants of Operant Conditioning (positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement, and negative punishment.) and Classical Conditioning (a process that involves creating an association between a naturally existing stimulus and a previously neutral one). We start with the least invasive methods and only go more invasive as needed and with owner approval.

Robert at K9 Academy is great! My year old lab is so much easier for me to walk. Would highly recommend Robert.
We just finished our six week training and I am so happy about all our puppy learned. He isn’t even six months old and they helped lay a great foundation for him. He was so excited every time that he saw his trainer so I knew he was in great hands. Definitely recommend Idaho K9 academy!!

I took my 6-year-old German Shepherd Sammy to Idaho K9 Academy primarily to work on her aggression with other dogs which made walking with her an unpleasant experience. I wanted to be able to walk around the Idaho Falls greeenbelt without her pulling on the leash or snapping at other dogs. I also wanted her to stop jumping on visitors when greeting them. I had her in training when she was a year old, but she was so aggressive with the other dogs that we couldn't complete the course. I suspected that this training would be difficult because of her age. I was pleasantly surprised. Robert, her trainer, worked on all of those issues; she is socialized and responds to my directions when walking on leash, when greeting people, and when instructed to stay in her crate. She completed a six-week course, with full day classes every Friday. She was excited about going to class and was equally excited when I picked her up. Robert spent 10-15 minutes with us at the end of each class reviewing what he had worked on with her that day and what she and I should work on during the week. It was a wonderful experience. I just wish I had found Robert and K9 Academy when Sammy was younger. Highly recommend!
Robert is amazing. He has taken our shy and anxious doodle and transformed him into the best boy! He picked up on his training so fast and so did we! We love our walks now and he “places” through doorbells, dinner, and more. Robert was a life saver!
