Hunter Canine Dog Training

I just finished the board and train program for my dog and am amazed at the change in him in just a few short weeks! I received updates every few days from the trainer while my dog was away, and the trainer continues to be a huge help to me now that my dog has come home. As the dog owner, it’s important to understand that you have to put the work in when the dog comes back or the dog will lose all the skills they learned while away. Highly recommend Hunter Canine!

We have an 11 month old Jack Russell terrier named Skye. She’s not my first Jack Russell, but she has definitely been one of my most challenging. When meeting new dogs, she often snarled even though she genuinely wanted to play—she just didn’t know how to say hello. She also barked and growled at the TV whenever she saw horses, dogs, or heard unfamiliar sounds. Her leash manners were shaky, and she was starting to run the household. The breaking point came when she failed her doggy daycare trial. She was simply too excitable and stirred the other dogs up, so it wasn’t going to work. I had been considering professional training for a while, so I started searching for trainers in the Wilmington area. Hunter Canine stood out immediately—the reviews were glowing. I finally got up the courage to send an email. After a consultation with Hunter, I was extremely impressed. He was knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate, and truly understood what my dog needed. We decided on a four week board and train program. Matthew worked with her for the entire four weeks and was incredible. I honestly can’t say enough about what he did for Skye and for us. She made tremendous progress, and we’re now working through the 30 day transition period at home. Matthew is skilled, caring, and clearly passionate about his work. His follow up and support have been outstanding—he has answered every question and has proactively checked in to make sure things are going well. I couldn’t be happier. We’re continuing to transfer her new skills to respond to us. She has tested boundaries a bit, but with the clear instructions and guidance Matthew provides, we’re successfully working through her attempts to take charge again. I would recommend Hunter, Matthew, and the entire team without hesitation. They explain what they’re doing with the dogs and why, and it all makes sense. I cannot stop recommending Hunter Canine to everyone I know who tells me they’re getting a puppy or have a dog that needs training ! I originally reached out to Hunter for my girls, Presley and Poppy. I was highly interested in needing some more structure and revamping on listening skills before I wanted to get a 3rd pup to join our pack. It has been worth every penny and I’m excited to get my newest pup to day camp ! I’ve worked with Hunter directly and he was able to help me fix a few problems Poppy was experiencing at home but wasn’t necessarily showing these behaviors at camp. It took only 2 lessons and she realized she can’t terrorize our window and anyone who walks by. My other dog Presley absolutely LOVES coming to camp, is always so happy to go and exhausted when I pick her up. Relearning the e collar has been a game changer for her and she’s definitely not humping new house guests! Though she was perfect before, she’s learned a few new things in day camp that I never thought I could get her to do. All of the trainers at day camp love on your dog like their own and I 1000% trust my dogs in their care. I wouldn’t even hesitate it ! I recently experienced a family emergency and needed last minute dog care for my new puppy. I reached out to the girls and they were able to coordinate a trainer who would be available to help me for a few days. I was so relieved and grateful with their willingness to help when I desperately needed to have last minute arrangements. You don’t find this kind of compassion and customer service often. Hunter and his staff are the best and they love what they do! I’ve always been weary of leaving my dogs places but I never had that feeling with them. They’re always so helpful and willing to give advice when needed. Once you become a part of the Hunter Canine family, you’ll always feel welcomed and supported :) 10000/10 recommend, you’ll regret it if you don’t !!!!!! We took our Pitbull terrier puppy to Hunter Canine and couldn’t have been happier. Finn was her direct handler while working with all the staff and I always felt welcomed but more importantly that my puppy was loved. Finn was always glad to see us and my puppy bonded with her easily. Finn was thorough at pick up about what they worked on that day and gave great tips to keep the training going at home. At the end our our day camp training our puppy was a happy, well mannered girl who knew all the basic commands. We have a solid base in which to work from! I recommend Hunter Canine and Finn very happily.
