Highland Canine Training, LLC

I came to Highland Canine looking for help to correct some unwanted behaviors with my eight-month-old female Doberman. I found Matt’s contact information on the website and gave him a call. That same week Matt came out to evaluate Remington and set up a plan for training sessions. After a single training session, I was able to comfortably walk Remington without her pulling at the leash and dragging me around. We would have weekly sessions where Matt would fully explain a new concept or command and then demonstrate it with Remington. I would take that week’s lesson as homework and practice with Remington through the week. My confidence grew each week and I could see a drastic change in Remington’s behavior and ability to control her excitement. One thing that really stood out to me was that Matt always took time to ask about things that I wanted to work on with Remington. Every time I noticed something I thought I needed help with Matt would spend time in the next session to show me how to correct that behavior. I now have a perfectly well-mannered Doberman that I feel confident taking anywhere. I signed up for lessons with hopes that I would be able to stop her jumping on people and pulling on a leash, I never thought I would be able to take her into public places and have fun doing it. I’m able to spend more time with her now that I can take her along with me and it definitely created a closer bond between us. I would 100% recommend Matt to anyone looking for a trainer, I’m very impressed with his work.

I had moved to NC from Boston which was a difficult move for my heeler/kelpie mix as she wasn’t used to having so much space and couldn’t seem to relax after any form of strenuous exercise. I had gone through previous training in Boston but at times it just felt like a money grab. When I moved here I originally started with private lessons with Gabriella Fred and she was fantastic with my dog. She did suggest off leash training (3 week course) and I knew that it was right and I felt trust with her training my pup. After the 3 week course with Gabriella, my dog is like a different pup! Her being able to listen to commands on and off-leash is like night and day. Being able to go on off leash hikes and even have her around my 2 year old nephew has put me at ease from training with Gabriella at Highland. I definitely recommend this place if you want to see a change in your dog. She and the rest of the staff did a fantastic job and I am so happy that my dog has freedom and peace of mind.

I enjoyed my time at Highland K9 school for dog trainers! I don’t have a background in dog training so I went into it without really knowing what I was getting into. I learned so much from the 6 week pet training and obedience program. They have a roll-with-the-punches sort of approach to schedule. They take opportunities that come up to show their students real life situations. I enjoyed this approach, however it might not be for everyone if you like a planned and unchanging schedule. The class assignments were challenging for me, but they worked to help me feel like the challenges were approachable. I would say it’s an atmosphere of grace for mistakes while still upholding standards of learning. I feel more confident about being able to apply what I learned then I would from just reading about it or figuring it out on my own.
