Halo K9 Behavior Consultation

Do not come to this place to adopt a dog. I am a military veteran and I’ve been in law enforcement for several years now and this place has been one of the most unprofessional experiences I’ve ever encountered. Let me tell you my story. First and foremost I applied online for their purebred cane corso Mazikeen. Our application was submitted and reviewed and Halo got back to us within the first day. The person selling the dog was the roommate of the owner, and the roommate just happened to work at Halo. We texted for a couple days, gathering more information about the animal. In my application it stated I had children. During our chats via text message, I asked her if the dog was good with kids. She bragged about how good the dog was with children and even in her profile online on halo’s website, it also bragged how good she is with kids especially over four years old. Mind you, my child is 6. She then scheduled a meet and greet with us, and my family and I drove 40 minutes after I got off working a 12 hour shift to go meet Mazikeen. Mazikeen was great with my son. She didn’t pull on the leash, she showed no aggression whatsoever, overall a really sweet animal. The roommate of the owner was also the one conducting the meet and greet. The owner of the dog was not present. She said the reason the dog was being rehomed was because her roommate works all the time and leaves in the crate 16-20 hours a day and she persuaded him to rehome his 3 cane corso. This apparently was the last cane corso he had that needed rehomed. The meet and greet went great. I did notice however that when walking to my vehicle after the meet and greet, she brought Mazikeen to her owners car and he didn’t seem to happy to be rehoming his animal. But anyways, she scheduled to drop the dog off to us on Wednesday June 25th after 5pm. Two days before getting the dog, through text message, she contacted us and said we weren’t a good fit for the dog because I have a kid and that if I wanted to adopt a different dog from halo, that I could. So not only did she know through my application I had a child, not only did they lie on the profile stating she was good with children, not only did she admit through texts on several occasions she was good with kids, but they had also had me attend a meet and greet and bring my family which included my kid, but she also scheduled the drop off for the dog to be in my home. Then to put blame on the adopter instead of taking accountability for the real reason the dog couldn’t be rehomed to us is unbelievable. This place is truly a joke and I wouldn’t recommend anyone wasting their time with this place. If this is how they deal with adoption, I’d truly be interested to know how they are at training as well.

This place is legitimate. Halo is a good organization. They have twin beds for the dogs, it looks like they are in a home. I am always leary of different rescues, hoping they are doing the right thing for the animals they serve. This place does. Many years ago they helped me with a dog I rescued. They never asked for anything in return, they just wanted what was best for the dog. I was able to successfully integrate that mean, grumpy Chihuahua into our home, thanks to their help (Regina, I think! From Halo). I did donate food to them, and they seemed grateful. In an hour the lady showed me how to safely walk the dog, and how to deal with unwanted behaviors in a nice, non-violent way. Update to years later, and I was sitting at the Humane Society for assistance with a stray kitten. One of the owners of Halo walked in and donated a few bags of food to the Humane Society. I was so touched by this. They truly are a good organization. Good for you Halo!!!
