Golan Dogs

My dog has separation anxiety and I had tried working with other trainers, but was not getting anywhere. Golan worked with me and my pup over the course of 12 sessions. When we started training, my dog would start barking and howling after 5 seconds of me leaving. By the end of our 12 sessions, he was able to make it to 1 hour by himself. It’s still a work in progress, and we have good days and not so good, but Golan taught me how to read my dog’s body language and cues of distress, tailored each session based on how the last session went and my work with my dog in between sessions, and remained patient, realistic and non-judgmental with both me and my dog. I highly recommend working with Golan.

I recently moved to San Diego and my living situation changed from living with just my dog to one with family that included a toddler. My dog was having a really difficult time adapting and coexisting. He had a general sense of fear being around lots of people and became overwhelmed easily. He had a history of being reactive/aggressive with other dogs and I had trouble taking him on walks without having him freak out seeing other dogs. My strategy had been to avoid these types of situations, but our new home didn’t allow for this and I wanted to address my dogs behavioral issues. I searched endlessly for someone that would be able to train my dog without using a shock collar or endless amounts of treats. I found Golan and he more than met my expectations. Golan set me up for success with his principles of understanding how dogs think, how to read my dog’s body language and the ways in which I should lead my dog. He taught me how to handle my dog on leash in challenging situations for my dog while being precautious, but also while giving him a chance to build confidence. After completing 6 training sessions using his methods and making an overall shift towards following his principles, my dog has become incredibly more calm in general and in situations I had previously avoided. His confidence has grown and he has now gotten used to our living situation. We can go on walks in busy areas with other dogs and our collective anxiety has eased. Golan has set us up for continued progress and I can’t thank him enough! Thanks Golan!!

I will start by why I needed Golans help in the first place. I recently adopted a three year old non socialized heeler mix. She was reactive to everything animals, people on walks, cars driving by, everything. With Golans help he showed me how to understand my own behaviors causing my dog to feel it was okay to react, what I could do to help once she did and eventually how I can ensure I'm vigilant to her emotions. I searched a lot of trainers because in addition to being under socialized she was not taken care of in her old family she has throat and stomach issues so I didn't want choke collars or treats for training which is a tall order. Golan over 8 sessions was able to work to teach me to learn her behaviors, my behaviors and how to correct her. I'm happy to say our last session was in the mission beach board walk. She had not a single reaction. While we have some work on her car behavior to go I know now what I need to do! I definitely recommend and remember it's not a cure all always you have to be consistent and put in the work.
