About Gentle Touch Pet Training
A full spectrum of dog training classes and dog sports are available ranging from introductory puppy classes to advanced clicker training. All basic dog training is based on the tenets of Clicker Training, a gentle approach using a marker signal and positive reinforcement to shape your dog’s behaviors the same way marine mammals are trained. Dog Sports are a great way to spend time with your dog and create a lifelong connection. Gentle Touch offers an Agility program with beginning classes through the highest levels of competition. Nose Work (K9 scent detection for fun and sport) is the newest dog sport that is sweeping the country and Gentle Touch offers a complete series of classes with five certified instructors.

If you live in SLO County, you have many good training options. Both Gentle Touch in Arroyo Grande and Canine Academy in Atascadero have entry-level 6 week obedience classes. Both are very good. But there are any number of excellent trainers all through the county, and many if them offer obedience training through city rec departments.

Kind, knowledgeable trainers will train you to train your dog to pay attention, walk on a leash and basically be a good dog citizen.
1000 Hills Boarding, Gentle Touch Training and New Life K9 are awesome for training and boarding. As a K9 handler and trainer, I know what what to look for in a pet facility. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

I’m bummed that our dog wasn’t appropriately assessed and that we didn’t know better as new owners. We took the (group) puppy training class with our highly reactive puppy and as professional trainers, they should have told us that this was not a class for our reactive puppy instead of 1. taking our money anyway and 2. allowing our puppy to be in such an agitated state for an hour at each class. It’s normal behavior we were told. It is not normal behavior that she was over her threshold constantly. As professional trainers, they should know better! It was at the completion of the program that they recommended the Feisty Fidos class. No thank you!
