We got our recent Belgian Malinois at a local shelter. I've had several Belgian Tervurens that I’ve trained in rally, scent work and of course, sheepherding. What could go wrong?! Never having a dog from a shelter before, especially a Malinois, we had no idea what we would be getting ourselves into. For those who are not familiar with Belgians they have a strong will and strong work ethic. However, Mals are more driven and focused that the other Belgian breeds. We started training with a fellow who claimed he had experience with Malinois. After several ½ hour lessons, not much had improved with Coda. For a nano-second we thought that this young Malinois was too far gone, but I knew if we returned him to the shelter he most probably would be euthanized. I asked a couple of friends for dog training recommendations. Everyone suggested Fon Jon. Finding Fon Jon saved Coda’s life and our sanity. Not only is Fon a thoughtful trainer but he's kind and really understands our dog's needs. I realized that my husband and I need the training as well. While Coda is a Belgian, he is a Malinois not a Tervuren. We are very lucky to be working with Fon. Fon is clear with his information regarding class training and the expectations. The hour-long training is more productive, and the results are our reward. Fon is patient with our questions and concerns. Especially the idea of using the E collar on Coda. Fon was very thorough with his detailed explanation regarding the E collar including the intent and outcome. Praise and reward are also important to us, and to Fon, so it’s a healthy balance. As predicted by Fon, Coda walked on a leash politely during our first lesson!!! Hurray!! We look forward to going to Fon Jon. The results prove that Coda is getting the best training. Coda is becoming less nervous with strangers, and I believe this is because of our work with Fon at Fon Jon! My husband and I highly recommend Fon Jon especially if your dog’s behavior is stressing your quality of life and enjoyment with your loyal companion.

We've only had a few sessions with Ricky so far, but he's already made a huge impact on our dog's behavior. His instructions are clear, easy to follow, and incredibly effective. In our very first session, Ricky helped us stop our dog from pulling on the leash—a problem we'd been struggling with for a while. By the second session, we were already working on recall with great progress. What I really appreciate is that Ricky doesn't just show us what to do—he explains why we're doing it. That context has helped us better understand our dog and feel more confident in continuing the training ourselves in between sessions. Ricky is clearly knowledgeable and passionate about what he does. I'd absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to improve their dog's behavior.

We had our first training session with Ricky today. We brought our (almost) 9 year old Rottweiler and our 13 week old Rottweiler puppy. Ricky talked to us at length and tailored the training session to exactly the things we wanted to work on. He explained his techniques and the science and psychology behind them. Both my fiancée and I were incredibly impressed, and honestly surprised at how well the session went and how much we were able to accomplish. We are excited to bring what we learned home and looking forward to our next session. Thank you, Ricky!
