I’ve been going to Craig and his family for guidance and help with hunting dog training for several years now. I continue going to Craig’s because my dogs and I grow from each interaction. I believe in Craig and the Hunsmith method. The Huntsmith method makes sense to me. This discipline of dog training is based on dog development and mutual respect. It breaks down a dog’s hunting development into small steps that are easy for your pup to understand. Those steps are scaffolded to help with each successive step that follows. In the end your dog could be steady and stylish. And to me, that is what bird hunting is all about-a pretty looking dog working birds in the woods or prairies. Craig believes in training the dog AND dog handler. Training your pup would be futile if you did not know how to handle your hunting partner. For this reason, Craig spends time with you to help you establish a healthy relationship with your dog. He also teaches you how to handle your dog. I highly recommend Fly-n-Gun Kennels. My boyfriend and I are so happy (and thankful) for all of the work that Craig did with our puppy! We have an English setter that was around 8 months old when we dropped her off for training. Prior to training at Fly-n-Gun Kennels, I had tried a variety of training classes with little success. Our puppy is super sweet, but is also very anxious and apprehensive, with an insane energy level and prey drive. Once she hit her “teenage” phase around 6/7 months, we quickly realized that she was too nervous, fast and smart for her own good and needed more help than the treat-based classes we had previously participated in. Our goal for our dog was to have an excellent hunting/working dog, while also having her be a good member of the family. Craig was super receptive to our goals. Nala (our puppy) was with Fly-n-Gun Kennels for 7 weeks. At drop off and pick up, it was clear that Craig was very knowledgeable. He was able to provide more information about her pedigree that explained why she had been so difficult for us to handle and train. He also took the time to show us essentially every step of the training process, which really helped us to understand how a dog thinks and what we should continue at home. We picked her up just over two weeks ago and could not be more pleased with the progress she made while at training. She is actually trustworthy!! Her recall is amazing, and she is much better at pointing! She is also significantly less anxious. While it was very hard emotionally to drop off our pup for seven weeks, it was very much worth it. She now has more freedom to explore, and we can do fun activities with her! Fly-n-Gun Kennels is worth every penny. Hunting dog or not, we plan on sending all of our future dogs to Craig!
