What are the best options for training for my new puppy?
That's a great question! Puppy socialization is VERY important. Puppies are learning a lot about the world from about 8-14 weeks during their "critical socialization period," so it's very important that they start doing things and meeting people early. We want to keep puppies safe until they're vaccinated, but puppy classes are a very safe way to start training and socializing as early as 8 weeks.
Our puppy classes will teach basic skills like how to sit, drop it, and walking on leash. Puppy Kindergarten will also cover topics like how to stop puppies from biting, potty training, preventing puppies from chewing on things they shouldn't, and avoiding other future problems.
Puppy training classes also provide socialization with other puppies to help them learn appropriate play, as well as meeting new people in a safe environment (again, puppies do not have to be fully vaccinated to start puppy classes!).
We can also set up private training sessions for puppies!

We use positive reinforcement based methods in all of our training. There are a lot of labels/terms out there, like force free, rewards based, science based, ethical training, Fear Free- and those are all good terms for what we do!
Our trainers look for ways to reinforce behavior we like (walking on leash, sitting, waiting for the food bowl, etc), and find alternatives and management strategies to reduce behavior we don't like (chewing on furniture, barking, pulling on leash, etc).
We do not use pain, discomfort, or fear in our training. That means we avoid tools like prong or shock collars, and look for the kindest AND most effective strategies when working with behavior. Our trainers are constantly learning from experts and gaining standardized certifications so you know their level of expertise.

We do! As part of our mission to make training/behavior support available to EVERYONE, we offer financial assistance on all of our training. It's super easy to request financial aid- there's a form on the website (on all training pages!) for your name and email. Then you get an automated email back with codes for different levels of financial aid, so you can use them to book group classes or private training. And if you need more help, you can email us to figure out what will work for you.
We do sometimes offer discounts for specific promotions, but our financial assistance is the best bet if you're struggling financially.

Our in-person group dog training classes are held at two locations: at our Community Center (north) and Work and Woof (south). This means folks can attend classes without having to cross the river! Agility classes are only held at our north location, but most classes are held at both/either.
We also offer online/virtual dog training classes taught by experts from Austin and around the country.

We offer SO MANY types of classes!
-Puppy training classes include Puppy Kindergarten (puppies 8-14 weeks) and Puppy First Grade (puppies 4-6 months). These are great for socialization and setting puppies up for success around issues like potty training, puppy biting/teething, etc.
-Basic manners/obedience classes as well as intermediate and advanced manners, or Canine Good Citizen (CGC) classes and testing
-Agility classes! This dog sport is awesome for exploring obstacles and doing something fun.
-Fun options like nosework/scentwork (nose work is great for helping give dogs a job!), or working on specific skills like recalls/coming when called or leash walking without pulling.
-Specialty behavior classes like Confidence Building (in-person) or separation anxiety class (virtual).
Check the Classes page on our website for the most updated list of current classes!

There are so many reasons to try agility!
1- It's a super fun dog sport all about going over/through obstacles. You've got to work on speed and accuracy, and it's tons of fun for people and dogs.
2- our training center is indoors and temperature controlled, so you can do agility on rainy days or hot summer days with no problems.
3- we can modify the sport for you and your dog. We offer puppy agility classes where all obstacles are lowered (to prevent any impacts on developing puppy bones), classes for those who want to get really good at the sport, and low-key options for those who want to build some confidence.
4- it's a great way to hone some traditional obedience cues in a more fun way! Your pup will be working on skills like recalls, downs, stays, etc and learning to really listen to you.
5- you can do it with a group or on your own! If you have a reactive dog, you can still totally do agility with us in private sessions!
As always, we offer financial assistance.

Is Every Dog a nonprofit? What does that mean? Is the training free?
We are a 501c3 nonprofit! This means that we're a community organization with a mission to provide inclusive, accessible dog training and behavior resources to the community.
Our training isn't free, but we offer financial assistance on all of our private training and group training classes for anyone in need. We also have free webinars and a library of free resources (articles, videos, etc) that anyone can access. We work with local groups to make sure you have access to as much great training information as possible.
Googling dog training advice can bring up a lot of information (a lot of it BAD information!!) so our website is a great place to look for resources that have been vetted by certified trainers and behavior consultants.

Every Dog saved us after a $5,000 board-and-train nightmare. Another program returned my reactive dog wearing a spiked choker, still lunging, and with a warning that they would never be sociable. Maxine Wilkes and her team completely turned things around. They are the kindest, most effective trainers I’ve ever worked with. Thanks to their humane, force-free approach, my dog can finally relax and actually enjoy walks. Highly recommend!

As a first-time dog owner, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing when I brought home my Goldendoodle puppy, Brownie. She was the definition of a land shark—I had bruises all over my hands and ankles, and I honestly cried almost every day from the time she was 9 weeks old until she was 4 months old.
Finding Every Dog Behavior completely changed our lives.
I started Brownie in Puppy First Grade, where I not only learned how to train her, but also how to be a better dog owner. Wanting to help her even more, I enrolled her in Puppy Day School twice a week. It was hands-down the best investment I could have made.
Every trainer is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, kind, and genuinely cares about the dogs they work with. You can tell they truly want every dog—and every owner—to succeed.
Brownie is now 7 months old, and we’ve graduated from the puppy program. The difference in her behavior and my confidence as a dog owner is incredible. I honestly can’t imagine where we’d be without Every Dog.
If you’re on the fence about professional training, don’t be. Every Dog Behavior is worth every penny and would be my first recommendation to anyone

I first found Every Dog Behavior and Training several years ago through a recommendation from a veterinary behaviorist, and I’m so glad I did. They were an incredible resource when I was working with my reactive rescue dog.
Now I’m back with my current puppy, and we’ve taken several group classes here, including Puppy, Basic Manners, and Puppy Agility. Every experience has been fantastic.
The facility is clean and welcoming, the staff is knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely invested in helping both dogs and their people succeed, and the classes are exceptionally well organized and thoughtfully managed. I’ve learned so much, and my dog has too.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Every Dog Behavior and Training, whether you’re working through behavior challenges or just looking for high-quality training classes.

The staff is so friendly and kind. I took my puppy here for Puppy Day School to work on socialization, make some friends, and get some mini trainings in. They provided me with great feedback, advice, and a packet with training and games to play at home. They also send you pictures and videos of your babe while they were at school! Great place and we will be back :)

I've had nothing but positive experiences attending classes and training sessions at Every Dog Behavior and Training (North). All 5 of my dogs have attended multiple classes. I also highly recommend their one on one services if you have a dog with anxiety or behavior issues. They offered great advice on handling my older anxious dog. I recommend Every Dog to everyone!
