Working with Nate (and his dogs who occasionally make a guest appearance in training sessions) has been transformative for our dog. An English Shepherd with the unfortunate luck of being a Covid puppy (he came home with us the weekend Vermont went into lockdown), Hugh presented us with challenges related to people coming to the house, traffic and bikers passing us on walks, etc. We first worked with Nate with a package of lessons at his location, then had two at home visits. We learned specific, concrete strategies for handling all of the situations that were problematic. And, given that training is as much about training people as their dogs, we appreciated that Nate was clear and direct with us about how our behaviors were not helping the dog. After a few months of working with Nate, we see clear success and are no longer avoiding situations that were previously stressful. We're not quite at off leash romps through the woods and fields yet, but we're heading in that direction. Hugh is turning into the dog we imagined he would be when he arrived as a puppy, and we are much better equipped to correct, redirect, and reward. Can't thank Nate enough for giving us all more freedom and calmness.
