I have been singing Laurie's praises since she worked with my rescue dog Maisie. In one session she turned Maisie around and taught me and my husband how to work with our dog.

Questions & answers
From GoogleWhat people have asked about this business.
What should I have ready for dog training sessions with you?
Please have your dog’s favorite treats, a few toys, their regular equipment (leash, collar, etc.), and any training tools you currently use. A relatively distraction-free area helps for initial lessons. We recommend not feeding your dog immediately before sessions so they’re motivated by treats. Also, have ready examples of problematic behaviors you’d like to address and any questions prepared. We’ll bring additional training tools as needed.

Is my dog too old for training?
No dog is ever too old to learn! Senior dogs often excel in training as they’re typically calmer and more focused than younger dogs. We’ve successfully trained dogs well into their teens. We adjust our methods to accommodate any age-related limitations while still achieving impressive results. Training also provides valuable mental stimulation for older dogs, which helps keep their minds sharp. It’s truly never too late to improve your dog’s behavior.

How long are dog training sessions?
Our standard sessions last 60-75 minutes, which we’ve found to be the optimal length for productive training without overwhelming your dog. The first session is often 90 minutes as it includes a thorough assessment of your dog’s behavior, your home environment, and your specific goals. Between sessions, we recommend daily 10-15 minute practice periods to reinforce skills. Consistency with short, positive practice sessions yields better results than infrequent longer sessions.

How long before I see results in my dog's behavior?
Most clients notice improvements after just one session! However, lasting change typically requires 3-6 sessions with consistent practice. Every dog learns at their own pace, and factors like age, breed, and previous training experience can influence progress. We provide clear homework exercises between sessions to reinforce training. What sets us apart is our personalized approach—we adapt methods based on your dog’s unique personality and your family’s lifestyle.

Do you use positive reinforcement?
Yes! We exclusively use positive reinforcement techniques that build trust and confidence. Our training methods never involve fear, intimidation, or pain. We focus on rewarding desired behaviors while teaching owners how to effectively communicate with their dogs. This approach creates a stronger bond between you and your pet while establishing clear boundaries. Positive methods are not only more humane but also produce more reliable, long-lasting results.

Does my dog need behavior modification training?
Your dog may benefit from behavior modification if they show aggression, anxiety, fear, reactivity, resource guarding, or other concerning behaviors that impact their quality of life or safety. Unlike basic obedience (sit, stay), behavior modification addresses the emotional roots of problematic behaviors using specialized techniques. During our free consultation, we’ll assess your dog’s specific needs and determine the appropriate approach. Not all unwanted behaviors require intensive modification—some respond well to simple management and basic training. Early intervention typically yields the best results.

How does in-home dog training differ from group classes?
In-home dog training addresses behavior problems where they actually occur, allowing us to target specific issues in your dog’s everyday environment. This personalized approach means your dog learns in familiar surroundings without the distractions of other dogs or unfamiliar locations. We observe the dynamics between you and your pet in your natural setting, allowing us to customize training techniques that work specifically for your household. This targeted approach typically produces faster, more sustainable results than generalized group classes where individual attention is limited and real-life scenarios can’t be replicated.

Do you really come to my home for dog training?
Yes! I provide personalized, one-on-one dog training right in your Colorado Springs home. It’s more comfortable for your dog and more effective for real-life behavior. I train where the problems happen—your living room, your yard, your neighborhood. 🐶 In-home training = real results.

I am very happy with the way Beau is doing. We have made good progress. Thanks for your advice.

After only 1 training session with Laurie, our 1 year old heeler mix was a different dog seemingly overnight. Before, we couldn’t take him on walks, in the car, or have him meet new people without him barking like crazy, growling, and lunging. Now, we can take him anywhere. He doesn’t bark in the car, we can introduce him to people without causing a scene. Her training method truly works and if you’re on the fence about trying it, just do it. Best decision we’ve made.
Laurie is a real pro. She knows dogs and how they behave. She helped us a great deal and I would recommend her to anyone without hesitation.
Laurie gave us great help in training our puppy Wrigley. She had the patience and the expertise we needed to start our puppy off right. Wrigley understands the commands we wanted her to learn and responds positively to them!
