How does a diabetic alert dog detect low blood sugar?
Diabetic alert dogs are trained to recognize the unique scent changes that occur when a person’s blood sugar drops (hypoglycemia) or rises rapidly (hyperglycemia). Through scent imprinting and positive reinforcement, dogs learn to associate these chemical changes with specific alert behaviors—such as pawing, nudging, or sitting in front of their handler. With consistent training, many diabetic alert dogs can detect changes in blood sugar levels before symptoms appear—sometimes even earlier than a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). Our locally owned team specializes in diabetic alert dog training in Treasure Coast, helping individuals and families live with greater safety, freedom, and peace of mind.

How do I pick the right dog for PTSD service work?
The best PTSD service dogs are calm, confident, attentive, and eager to learn. While breed isn’t everything, we often recommend Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Poodles due to their temperament and trainability. At Dog Training Elite in Treasure Coast, we conduct temperament testing and offer professional guidance to help match individuals with dogs that meet the physical, emotional, and task-based demands of psychiatric service work. Whether you’re in Port St. Lucie, Palm Beach, or anywhere in Treasure Coast, our locally owned team is here to support your journey with personalized service dog training.

Can dog training help with fireworks anxiety during the Fourth of July?
Yes. Professional dog training can significantly reduce fireworks anxiety using desensitization techniques and structured obedience training. We gradually expose dogs to recorded firework sounds at low volumes while reinforcing calm behavior with rewards. Teaching commands like “place” and “stay” in a quiet, safe zone also builds a sense of security. Starting early gives your dog time to develop confidence before the noise begins. Our locally owned team offers personalized training in Treasure Coast to help dogs stay calm and families feel at ease.

Dog Training Elite has been such a pleasure to work with while training my Husky! From Clara handling our initial call and setting up our orientation, to Maddie always greeting us warmly at the front, to all of the amazing trainers—Laura, Jim, Nick, Taylor, Nate, and Cassandra—our experience has been wonderful from start to finish. The trainers took the time not only to teach my fur child how to behave, but also to teach me how to continue reinforcing his training at home. They truly set you up for success by providing helpful training videos and a variety of group classes you can attend to make sure you and your pup fully understand each other and what’s being asked of them. I’m so happy we chose Dog Training Elite and incredibly grateful for all of the time, patience, and effort their team has put into helping us!

So these people seem to be good genuine people. However, I went to their facility with my dog before enrolling and I saw a few dogs there, all well behaved. The problem is that on that visit, all of the information was not provided. They informed me about group classes and private home classes but what they failed to mention is that there would be a shock collar involved. I am not trying to ruin these people’s business because I believe they are all good people. However, there shouldn’t have been any surprises. While I was at their facility there wasn’t a single dog there with a shock collar and it was never mentioned when I sat down with the person. It has now been months since they have been to my home to train my dog but, I am still being charged $298.53 every single month. When you see the photos I am about to post I would ask you to let me know if I am wrong for not wanting to continue. My dog got sores on his neck from the collar and the sores became infected. My dog runs away now when I try to put a regular collar on him now. The dog is completely traumatized but I haven’t sent these people a vet bill or got any attorneys involved but these people continue to bill me every month. I told them that I gave my dog away because I didn’t want them to come back and use that collar on my dog again but I am still being charged every month. I would think that once I sent them the pictures and they saw what happened to my dog and then I cancel the next 3 appointments and then tell you I gave my dog away, I would think they would have gotten the picture. Maybe I could have done it differently. Maybe I should have just said this is what your collar is doing to my dog and I’d like for you to stop charging me and not come back. I should have done that but I try to be civil. I try to avoid conflict at all costs and now I’m still paying for it. When they showed up at my house they came with the collar. It was completely unexpected. The collar wasn’t shown to me when I enrolled though. They did ask me to pick a color and I chose Blue but there were a bunch of leashes on the wall so I thought that’s what I was choosing
