Dog Psychology and Training Center

I was hesitant to send my dog away for training and justifying the cost-however my experience with Dog Psychology and training center has been fantastic. Prior to training my dog was unable to walk on a leash without pulling and lunging at people on the sidewalk. Now he is focused on me and my direction I provide to him based on what he learned. This is such a change and improvement, I’m so grateful to have this training and be able to take my dog places and know he will behave in social settings!

After training my life with my dog has been less stressful, switch with the crate and her ability to calm herself and remain calm (while still a work in progress at times) is incredible. I am so happy I was able to give my pup this opportunity to succeed and learn all that she has. When having friends over she will now hold "place". I feel like my pup and I are closer now and more in tune with each other and it makes me so happy! -

DPTC is absolutely life changing. Both my and my roommates dogs (puppies) had some understanding of training, but with any distraction or trip out of home, all that training went out the window. We were using all kinds of walking restraints like slow walk halters and having to limit how long we could do things and who we could see. One of our dogs was also petrified of the crate so we couldn't leave without someone being home with the dogs otherwise she would jump over the couch, bark for hours on end, and go to the bathroom in the house. Overall a disaster. HOWEVER - I found DPTC with some googling and the reviews seemed phenomenal so we both decided to go in on the 3 week boarding training. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING outcomes. Both dogs have more control, patience, calmness, and honestly happiness. You can tell they feel more confident in themselves now that they have firm foundations of training and their training is super stuck and well-solidified. I honestly cannot imagine where we would be without DPTC. Beyond those glowing remarks, which I truly could go on about forever, I really think DPTC is unique when I was looking around at the training opportunities because of their commitment to training full time by leaving your dog at their site, but also compassionate and neuroscience driven training techniques including optimal learning to break ratios, building upon prior lessons, and overall expecting them to uphold the skills they learned throughout the day. The consistency that they provide the dogs makes all the difference. I also very much appreciate them doing much of the "new stuff" inundation that is so important for puppies to experience - like kids, cats, stores with strangers, loud noises, etc. By having the training center located where it is and set up where it is, the dogs get immeasurable positive exposure to life and their comfortability with existing in a chaotic world noticeably improves. I cannot say enough good things about this program, both of our dogs are changed for the good, and have the foundation to make sure they continue on as successful, well trained dogs as my roommate and I have families, travel, and live life with our pups.

We took our new Golden Retriever, Charlie, home at 8 weeks old. While we started him off with basic obedience training right away, it soon became evident that he needed a little more than what we could provide. He started jumping and nipping a lot, especially when he got excited. He would also chase and nip at our kids (8 & 10). He would bite and pull on the leash on walks. He was also anxious on walks and would jump, nip and growl whenever he got uncomfortable. In the house, he would steal items, such as socks and paper and then run away for us to chase him. Whenever we tried to correct him, his nipping behavior would get worse and we were really at a loss for how to move forward. We felt defeated and worried that maybe he was an aggressive dog. I decided to call around and did my research on 4 different training facilities and we finally settled on DPTC due to the kind and positive approach they take on training and the way they use the LIV30 program. I didn’t want my dog to go to a cookie-cutter training program. I wanted him to go somewhere that I really felt would care about him and customize a training plan based on what we were struggling with. Somewhere where he would learn how to have manners in the house and outside of the home. Dog Psychology and Training Center rose to and exceeded all of our expectations! They took the time to listen to all of our concerns and answer all of our questions! It’s very clear how much they love dogs and families and they work tirelessly to make sure your dog is a seamless member of your family! When we picked up Charlie after each training week, it felt like we we’re bringing home a different dog! One that made eye contact and waited for commands! Had door manners and did not pull on the leash while walking! He listened to commands and held them until we released him and his demeanor is now calm and confident! He is just an absolute joy to have around and we get compliments everywhere we go on how well behaved he is! The best thing DPTC did for us was help us understand each other. Charlie is not confused anymore and knows exactly what we expect! And we are not frustrated with him anymore because we know exactly how to ask for the behavior we want! We were worried that he was a dominant and aggressive puppy, but we now know that he is a happy-go-lucky lover boy that is just eager to please! If you’re at all on the fence about sending your dog here, just do it! It will be one of the best decisions you ever made for you and your dog!
