Divine K-9

My collie Riley and I went to a well known dog training agency here in Madison. We tried a puppy class when he was less than 16 wks old. I thought we would get to socialize & learn training techniques. Riley was very vocal in class and excited to see the puppies. The trainer told me that he was over stimulated. We socialized with a maximum of 2 puppies at a time. The trainer seemed to have her favorites in class and we were not among them. During the last class we went to the trainer put us in a corner where she set up a fence with a sheet over the top so we were blocked out of sight of the other pups. I felt like we were failures. We went to 3 classes and dropped out. I had no clue what I was going to do. Then my groomer told me about a great dog trainer, Jorge, who stopped by her spa. She said he was very positive and really knew dog behavior. I called and it was the smartest thing I ever did! First of all Riley LOVED HIM!! That gives Jorge big bonus points! Second of all he taught us more in the first session that I would have ever hoped to learn! Riley is an active 8 month old now and Jorge really helps me understand how he thinks. He has Riley doing things I never thought he could do with every session. Jorge is very supportive! He gives you his cell phone and it's like having a trainer with you all the time. He welcomes questions and solves problems over the phone. We are not finished with our training but plan on sticking with Jorge and learning as much as we can! He is by far the best trainer you will ever find for your dog! Riley and I highly recommend him! UPDATE- Riley is a year old now. We took our training session and had an adventure at small shopping mall. Jorge showed me how to meet people with the building blocks that we worked on at home. I was so amazed at how the lessons flowed into a great afternoon of meeting people. I would have never dreamed this would be possible! I also learned that there are a lot of dog friendly places. That means more adventures! Jorge really is a great teacher and thanks to Jorge Riley and I will be experiencing life to the fullest together! Update- Riley is now 2 years old and we have come a long way!! We still have more to learn but as Jorge says, "It's a journey!" I am including a picture of Riley practicing impulse control by having a treat on each paw. I never thought he could do this! Our polite walking is getting better! He does a great recall, sit and stay and I could go on and on. With each triumph Jorge has been cheering us on. And he smooths over any bumps in the road with his great advice. We couldn't have a better teacher. As I went to update my review I saw that someone had given Divine K-9 one star and I wanted to see what the reason was. There was no reason listed. Which proves my point that there is NO REASON to give Divine K-9 one star!! They are a 5 STAR training company all the way around!! My experience has been outstanding! So if you need a GREAT DOG TRAINER Jorge is your guy!! UPDATE- This is a photo demonstrating Riley's impulse control . I keep updating my review because I wish I would have had access to something like this when Riley was a puppy. You can read a review but with an involved process like dog training one often wonders how the dog did later in the process. I honestly thought we were doomed after DBF puppy classes. And now my "over stimulated" dog has terrific impulse control among other talents thanks to Jorge Melara with Divine K-9! I love dogs and love learning how to communicate with my pup. Thanks to Jorge the process is a fun one. He is a terrific teacher! UPDATE- Riley is 4, Great impulse control so I posted another picture, We are still learning from Jorge! It's a Journey! He taught us what to do when confronted with an aggressive dog on a walk. Helps with every day issues. Reminds us to have fun! He gives you confidence to face anything. Best Dog Trainer hands down is JORGE MELARA!

We have benefited greatly with Jorge's Basic Manners and Obedience dog training. Jorge involves the entire family, especially our 13-year old son, who has been able to step-up as one of our dog's "primary people", which is a huge success for us. Our dog's manners and impulse control is much improved, and we have the foundation and building blocks we need to continue working with him, to make our great dog an AWESOME dog!

When our foster dog came into our home she had some behavior issues that we were just not sure how to fix. We contacted Jorge and an appointment was immediately set up. He taught my entire family exercises using positive reinforcement and treats for good behavior. He really took his time with my 7 year old which I appreciated because he made him part of the "behavior team" as well. Within 2 weeks our foster was like a new dog. We were finally able to put our foster with our own dogs which was like a breath of fresh air to us. Before Jorge we had been unable to put all dogs together for 8 weeks. I would highly recommend Jorge! He is the best around!
