Dan Perata Training

I brought my dog to Dan Perata Training for boarding after learning they accept reactive dogs. Before boarding, we did a series of training classes together, and I was initially nervous about the process. What put me at ease was knowing they don’t use prong collars, e-collars, or treats in their training. The results have been incredible. My 130-pound reactive dog no longer lunges at people or other dogs, and our daily walks are so much more enjoyable now. Given his size and reactivity, I was understandably anxious about boarding him, but after a couple of days in their care, I feel completely confident leaving him with this establishment.

I adopted two five-year old pugs last year and quickly learned they needed help with their manners. Walks were a headache with one in particular barking constantly and rushing towards any strangers. I couldn’t have guests and was always cleaning up messes. I spent a good amount of time researching various trainers and nothing really clicked for me. I wanted to find a training method that was firm but kind. When I found this quote (“If you treat your dog like a human, it will treat you like a dog. If you treat your dog like a dog, it will treat you like a human”) on Dan Perata’s website, I was intrigued. The team was warm and transparent on our first meeting about the cost, the commitment required from me, and the results I could expect. I saw a difference in my dogs' behaviors right away. During our training time, I got to know the trainers and facility, and my dogs happily go back inside now when I leave them for boarding. I know they are in the right hands.

I first met Dan after I had adopted a dog, Mattie, from Berkeley Humane society. When I adopted her they said she was a stray and that's all they knew. No aggression no issues of any kind. Fast forward about a month: My mom was walking Mattie and she saw another dog and lunged at the dog, knocking my mom to the ground, shattered her jaw and knocked 3 teeth out. My mom managed to hold on to the leash thankfully. As Mattie got more and more comfortable in the house her aggression got worse, she was aggressive towards all animals, very reactive towards men, food aggressive, protective of high value toys , growling etc and pulled on the leash nonstop. The situation was becoming very dangerous . I would dread walking her bc it was always drama. We were at our wits end and trying to find a solution…. After the first consult with Dan I knew he was going to change Mattie and my life. As soon as we walked in he told her to sit; which she never did for me. He said sit and she sat immediately. Dan has an alpha presence that is unmatched. Dan has saved the lives of hundreds if not thousands of dogs by giving their owner the knowledge and training to change the trajectory of both their lives. I cannot say enough good things about DPT. After training Mattie with Dan and doing Dan Camp, Mattie was a completely different dog. I was able to adopt another dog which I also trained with Dan and she and Mattie became best friends. I also fostered 18 kittens (ended up keeping two) a rabbit and a goose and Mattie had no aggression towards them. She no longer pulled on the leash and could be off leash with other dogs without issue. I trust no one else with my dogs and will always always ALWAYS bring my dogs here for training boarding and day care. Their staff works tirelessly to take care of each and every animal as if they were their own . There is simply no one else I trust. If you’re reading this I highly recommend making the call. Our dog was experiencing severe anxiety and with Dan Camp's help, he is able to live his life with confidence. We went through several other training programs before we found Dan Camp and this was the only one to actually help. We've done the dog boarding with training and now continue to board him whenever we go out of town. It's the only place where our dog will leave us and his tail will be wagging while walking with the staff.
