What people have asked about this business.

Do you do therapy dog tests or training here?

At this time (April 2017), we do not offer therapy dog testing. However, we do offer AKC Canine Good Citizen testing which is a prerequisite for some therapy dog tests, and some of our group class students have gone on to pass the therapy dog test. We can help you train your dog toward this goal.

I spent over $578 at this business, including $422.65 for a 10-pack of classes, $48.15 for the mandatory orientation, and additional costs for dog materials like treats and bones. The orientation, which cost nearly $50, felt like a waste of time. I was treated like a beginner and walked through the basics of how to use a clicker and give a dog a treat. I understand people need instruction, but this could’ve easily been covered in 10 minutes, especially for someone who has common sense. The bigger issue, however, is their 60-day expiration policy on class packages. I only got to attend two classes before my package "expired" on December 9th. I reached out on December 30th after being unable to sign up for a class and was told that they only extend passes for medical reasons (illness or injury). When I asked if they could extend my package by 60 days (since I clearly missed the fine print), I was essentially told no. Instead, they offered me the option to pay more money to upgrade to a “Great Dog Flex Pass.” Here's the kicker: I was trying to sign up for classes, but many were already booked 2-3 weeks out, and the remaining spots were only available if someone canceled, with 24-hour notice. So, with a busy schedule it is tough to plan around that. When I asked for an extension I was told "Our expiration dates are clearly stated on the website and displayed by our scheduling system each time you sign up for a class." Fine, but if you're running a small local business, wouldn’t you want to keep a customer coming back, especially after they've already spent so much money with you? I was just looking for a little understanding and flexibility, but instead, I felt like I was being nickel-and-dimed. Very disappointed with my experience and will not be returning. If you're looking for a place that values its customers and operates with a little empathy, I suggest looking elsewhere.

we just started at Crossbones and we are so happy we chose them for our dog Miku! Everyone is so kind and also so competent! The facility is very clean and well run. In addition to the training the dogs receive and the classes they offer there is a puppy feedback session where you can get individualized feedback on how your pup is doing and guidance on any issues at home.

Crossbones is amazing. We are so appreciative of all they have done for Dorie and our family. We recently finished an intensive training program which was fantastic. PJ and the other trainers have given Dorie more confidence and have taught us (probably harder!!) how to keep the training going at home. We recommend Crossbones to anyone looking to give their dog a great, safe and enriching experience!

My husband and I had a great experience with PJ. She was patient with our wild carolina dog and really focused on the specific things that we were concerned about. We saw a huge improvement in our dog and we were able to correct behaviors that we struggled with for years in just a few weeks. We learned a lot of useful tips and absolutely feel we got what we paid for. We are so happy with the results that we are enrolling our new puppy into classes as soon as she’s ready.

I can't recommend Crossbones Dog Academy enough. Four months after adopting our second rescue dog, we began to have reactivity problems and the two dogs couldn't be in the same room together. We were at our wits' end until someone suggested Crossbones. Both dogs enrolled in private sessions with PJ, and the new dog followed up with Reactivity Training. We just signed up for additional classes.
