Long story here, but one I'm sure others have experienced. I had 2 large dogs (10 yr and 4 yr) and decided I could foster another, which of course came to me a complete mental mess. He was 7 months old with a huge lack of confidence and the need to lash out. After about 3 months, he became totally attached to me and my other two dogs, and it was apparent I was not going to be able to get him adopted. Then came the first incident. He ran out the front door, down the street, and jumped on a lady with a small dog. Animal control and the dreaded "vicious and aggressive" title, mandatory training, etc. So, I paid (what I thought was expensive at the time) $500 for private training through a large pet store with the whole "positive reinforcement only" policy. We went to our lessons and learned sit and down, but his lack of confidence and his bad attitude didn't change. Then another incident. He bit someone. Not a bad bite, but it broke skin. It was a friend, so it was excused, but it happened a few more times after. Finally, not knowing what to do, I was referred to Gaby. I brought Griffin to her for evaluation, and she basically said he is a brat and she would only take him if I could get him to wear a muzzle. At the time I felt defeated. But what she did do is took my 4 yr old, Murphy, for boot camp. She said that she could train him and show me how to do the same with the "brat." She walked me through how to muzzle train, answered exasperated calls and texts kindly, and kept me updated on the progress of Murphy. After bringing my 4yr old home, and again getting guidance from Gaby, Griffin is muzzle trained, and I can actually walk all three dogs without fear of being drug down the street. I haven't signed up yet for my problem child to go for behavioral training yet, but Gaby has set me up with the right tools and attitude to be a pack leader in my home and I now have the confidence to take my pack out in public without the fear of what might happen.
