Cherry Hoggs

Our Australian Labradoodle Maya has been going to Cherry Hoggs for about 5 months, and we have had a great experience working with Charlie and Frankie! We started working with them because Maya had strong anxiety around other dogs and new/foreign situations. Maya went through the boot camp program and she now regularly partakes in the daycare program. She is now much less reactive in situations that would have previously caused her to break into a frenzy. She is overall calmer and she is less likely to become frantic. While Maya still has some anxiety, she is more confident and a lot of the rough edges of her anxiety have been smoothed. Additionally, Frankie and Charlie have helped to us to better understand Maya’s needs and what she understands. I think that their training techniques work great in collaboration with treat/purely reward based training techniques! After a day at daycare, Maya always comes back happy and tired as seen in the photo!

Baxter is our intact 1.5 year old pit mix that we rescued as a 5 month old puppy. While Baxter never showed any signs of aggression or had any extreme behavior issues with animals or people, he has always had trouble listening and certainly has dominant traits that we needed help with *before* they developed into extreme unwanted behavior. In May, we decided to make a big trip out of it and drive Baxter from our home in NYC to Cherry Hoge for a two week bootcamp with Charlie and Frankie. When we first got into town, we had an awesome and informative in person consultation with Charlie who took as much time as we needed to go through his board & train process/ training techniques so that we were comfortable and understood the plan. While Baxter was in training, Charlie and Frankie kept us informed on Baxter’s progress. When we came back to pickup Baxter two weeks later, he walked perfectly on the lead, was noticeably more attentive and showed more impulse control than we had ever seen him have (EVER). Two weeks isn’t long enough for our energetic whirlwind of a dog to transform into a perfect angel completely, but those two weeks established a major foundation for Baxter and, most importantly, for us as his owners. When we picked him up, we spent lots of time with Charlie going through every detail and observation regarding Baxters personality and subsequent training needs. Charlie also took us on a lengthy walk with Baxter to show us how to properly use the lead as well as impulse control exercises which we utilize almost everyday now. We also paid extra to have them provide home cooked meals for Baxter while we were gone, and his gut health improved so drastically, I’ve kept him on homemade meals ever since. (Check out their nutrition plans, it’s no joke!) Charlie and Frankie are an incredible team, and we enjoyed our time with them very much. They are wonderful, down-to-earth people. They will take great care of your dog, and likely provide the most fun your dog has ever had. If we lived in town, we would send Baxter to them all the time. Making the trip out there was SO worth it! If you’re serious about getting your dog trained and LEARNING how to continue the training, I’d absolutely recommend getting out to Cherry Hogs, we love them!

Cherry Hoggs slip lead is superior! We were using a regular slip leash form the pet store and our dog was not responding to it as he should. We have a very strong Pittie and it would constantly slide down his neck and have to be readjusted. Cherry Hoggs, shorter, thinner lead has made a huge improvement! It stays put where it should rest at the top of the neck and our dog is responding much better. Worth the money, and the wait.
