CapeWest Retrievers & Training specializes in personalized training for both dogs and owners, ensuring happy, well-behaved pets. We work with all breeds and ages of dogs, and we also breed British Labradors.
Our programs include:
Puppy Start Program for dogs 6 months and younger
Basic Obedience for dogs 7 months and older
Gun Dog Training, with a focus on British Labradors
We believe that gun dogs can also be well-mannered house pets, which is why all our gun dogs begin with foundational obedience training.

I have had an incredible experience with CapeWest and the Specks. I found them while searching for a puppy with a good nose and temperament for diabetic alert dog training. Heath is so knowledgeable and passionate about what he does that I immediately felt confident in my choice. My puppy, Sunday, was born in Scott x Natty's '24 litter. Heath was very communicative both before and after the litter was born, and was available to answer training and care questions after the puppies went home with their new owners. Sunday just got home from a 3 month training stay where he worked with Heath on scent detection and handler focus while in public spaces. I was blown away by his progress. Heath sent me updates throughout and videos showing the techniques he was using so that I would be comfortable continuing our training when he came home. I am so happy I found Sunday and the Specks at CapeWest!

We got our puppy, Storm, from Cape West and also worked with Heath for her obedience training. We could not be happier with the progress she made. Heath went above and beyond, and his communication throughout the training was fantastic. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great trainer!

Heath was incredible. I can't say enough about the experience. We started our Pudelpointer (Moose) at five months old. He is thriving in the field. Heath was kind and communicative throughout.

I highly recommend CapeWest retrievers and training! We sent our 6 month old Sheepadoodle (Layla) for basic obedience training for 2 months. Heath did a great job and now we have the perfect 9 month old puppy! I plan to take her back after a year for a refresher course. Heath and his wife Caitlin are awesome and really love dogs and Layla loves them too! Thank you Heath!!
