Hello Private Eye, As always we appreciate feedback from our clients, especially when we can improve on a service. Our puppy class is a modular class with a set curriculum that meets at the same day and time each weeks and allows clients and their puppies to learn at their own pace. It is designed to provided general topic coverage at the lowest owner expense. Our clientele has largely provided great positive feedback for this approach as it provides them a variety of interactions with dogs up to 20 weeks of age and accommodation of owners’ schedules. However, we do agree that groups classes are not for everyone. For dogs that require attention beyond the scope of the group class curriculum we do also offer one-on-one training which can be tailored to specific individual needs. It standard practice for dog trainers in the area to charge different fees for different curriculums. Our puppy curriculum covers basic obedience, interpreting dog-dog interactions, how to get puppies to relinquish items, potty training, and basic handling desensitization. Of course, we always encourage additional questions during the class! As an additional accommodation for clients we do allow credit transfers between any of our modular class levels which currently includes 2 levels of basic obedience and Just for Fun Agility. Our 8 credit package is designed to provide the lowest rate for group classes as well as to accommodate the different class levels that our clients commonly advance through. Per the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s recommendations we require all puppies in attendance to provide proof of vaccination for at least one round of the Parvo/Distemper combination vaccine and encourage owners to follow their veterinarian’s recommendations thereafter. Because we take the risk of contagious disease very seriously, as soon as we were alerted to the potential for exposure we immediately passed that information on to class attendees. Our training space and implements are cleaned and sanitized daily. According to our records all puppies continued to attend classes except for one who was withdrawn from the class citing the parvo exposure and general owner dissatisfaction. That owner was immediately refunded their remaining class balance.
