Canine Case Squad

It was our first time owning a cane corso--not realizing the full challenges and unique behaviors of the breed. As she (Venus) started getting older she began getting over protective of my fiancé and I, her toys and food, etc.,. against our senior pitbull, Layla. Then more and more things started setting her off (much later came to find, Layla was instigating too!) and she would attack Layla. The aggression was getting worse and I was having difficulty separating, so Layla was getting hurt. The situation was becoming incredibly stressful to the point we almost considered giving Venus up--but we just couldn't do it. After doing a lot of research, I came across Canine Case Squad and read about Shari and Dan, saw the reviews and finally had a little hope. We went for introductory lessons and eventually wound up doing lessons with both dogs. Shari immediately recognized our puppy, Venus had anxiety and low confidence. We took multiple lessons (she trained us along with the Venus and Layla!) and boarded Venus for three weeks--it was really hard to let her go for that long, but it was worth it. The lessons led up to the boarding, which was helpful because Venus got used to going there and formed a relationship with everyone. Dan also provides videos with every lesson that have captions to help you learn how to correct your own behavior (e.g., incorrectly holding the leash) when you're handling the dog! This was eye-opening for us because so much changed and got better as we corrected and changed our ways too! We even learned to recognize signs of excitement, aggression, and when we needed to intervene and how. Shari was realistic with us and explained that the relationship between the two dogs might not be able to be fully mended--and they might need to remain separate. We learned so much during each lesson, walking on the leash properly and why that's important, muzzle training, corrections, impulse control activities, confidence building activities, walking with other dogs, how to introduce humans at the door, and so much more. When Venus had finished her boarding it was that much easier to be consistent because of the in depth training leading up to it. We received additional lessons after Venus' boarding too and I could tell her behavior had improved tremendously! Her confidence was much higher, she was walking on the leash really well, her commands and recall were on point. Shari then had us bringing both dogs and taught us techniques to work on improving the how the dog's could bond. None of this was quick; however, with a lot of patience, consistency and the right coaching from Shari, Dan and the rest of the team--our dog's relationship did a complete 180. This took about a year of work--but we recognize it's also a lifelong effort. We know we have to be consistent about walking, training, treating both dogs entirely fairly in all aspects, and continue to do activities to support their impulse control. The relationship is not 100% perfect and every now and again there are little tiffs, but Venus' aggression toward Layla has calmed down significantly. We even introduced a young English Mastiff to the mix, and all dogs are getting along great! If you are having behavioral or anxiety issues with your dog I definitely encourage you to reach out to Shari and Dan--they are amazing people and truly care about the dogs and wanting to really understand the issues and help. They're extremely thorough and they absolutely set us up for success.

We are incredibly grateful for Canine Case Squad. When we brought our dogs, 2-year-old female and male puppy, to Shari, Dan, and Cindy five months ago, we thought we were going to need to re-home one of them due to aggression. Canine case squad are amazing ! We brought our Winnie , 1.5 year old standard poodle to Shari , Cindy and Dan for her reactivity . They did a thorough assessment and developed a plan to help us with her reactivity. We’ve seen a huge difference in our walks with her and are more confident . We continue to grow the bond with Winnie and takeover as leader instead of allowing her to lead us. Since our first visit it has been a game changer. Winnie has a high prey drive and can be quite the barker when she wants to be but since we completed our sessions , we can now walk Winnie confidently in public.
