Blue Sky Canine

My very sweet girl Dallas was always a puller on leash. So much so that she caused me to fall which resulted in me needing hip surgery. Nevin with Blue Sky Canine to the rescue! After boarding and training with Nevin she came back home with many new skills… no more dashing out the door, staying in place, coming to “here” when called but most importantly is how much she has changed while walking on a leash. I’m still recovering but Dallas is well on her way. Nevin went above and beyond, both professional and personable I highly recommend.

I am so relieved and grateful to have found Blue Sky Canine. Nevin has been amazing in guiding my rescued Golden Retriever back to life. She was timid and afraid. Now she is totally coming out of her shell, romping and playing and happily using her mind. Nevin’s training has been perfect for her. Because of his ability to recognize and gently help her work through past traumas, she's gained an incredible amount of confidence. She is one happy girl now…and so am I! Can’t say enough good things about this company. I was hesitant at first but we decided to invest In our dog Jedi and it changed things dramatically. He was a shelter dog and had some screws loose in his head! Very nervous and unsure of him self. Nevin worked with him and I and completely rearranged his thinking and gave him the confidence he was missing. I am now able to read his body language better which gives us a better healthier relationship! If you need help with training these guys are the best and truly have you and your dogs well being and interest at the heart of their work and will be with you every step of the way!

Little to no progress & several significant concerns developed (including lacerations around my dog’s neck & him becoming aggressive for the first time ever.) My dog (& his breed) are highly intelligent, eager to please, very sociable, sweet & obedient; he previously had professional & informal training. He knew all basic commands & some more advanced level prior to B&T. After meeting with the trainers for almost 2 hrs where they evaluated him, the owner was confident that within the 3 week period they would be able to make good progress towards the agreed upon goals. When I brought him home, I immediately found moderate to severe lacerations all around his neck from the prong collar. This is especially concerning as it went undetected by the trainer while it was obvious that something was wrong & the collar was inflicting discomfort by the way my dog was acting. Some were scabbed over/ had been there for a week or more & others were fresh bleeding The concern was communicated to the trainer; the response was nonchalant The trainer also indicated he would not train without the prong collar. So it didn’t seem like my dog was really being trained but instead forced My dog (who I used to be able to take everywhere with me among large crowds of people & dogs), for the first time ever, demonstrated 2 incidents of aggression within a week after the board & train ended; the first while he was with the trainer. In both cases my dog tried to attack separate dogs, seemingly unprovoked 🙁 NEVER before had my dog showed any type of aggression towards another dog. When my dog's demeanor was initially evaluated by the trainer(s) they agreed that my dog was not dog aggressive I tried extensively to discuss these incidents with the trainer however only received very limited responses that provided no real concern or assistance in helping to evaluate the incidents. My dog seemed dehydrated every time I visited & the water supply available to him seemed limited. When I tried to give him as much water as he wanted to drink I was told not to as he would be put back in the kennel When I brought my dog home he immediately drank almost a gallon of water NONE of the TRAINING goals were met: Becoming less happy /excitable around high energy dogs & therefore more dog “neutral” I specifically requested that my dog gain high level, targeted exposure to his “triggers” (e.g. small squirmy animals & high energy reactive dogs) This did not happen, instead he was taken only walks at parks which didn’t start until the last week of training He did not come back to me anymore dog neutral but instead was suddenly aggressive towards other dogs. In discussing this with other independent trainers one likely cause was related to the prong collar injuries he sustained & association of that with other dogs. Enhanced Off Leash recall in highly distraction environments - No off leash training was started Advanced level commands - Did not learn anything new but instead digressed on commands that he previously knew Only received a couple of videos & none were directly related to the above whereby showing the requested level of training was carried out. The owner of the company was highly engaged at the beginning, however, after payment, we never heard from him again. No follow up during or after the B&T. No outreach when I communicated the significant concerns about the wounds around my dogs neck & the aggression incidents. After the B&T, I reached out directly to the owner which resulted in an unproductive conversation between us & the trainer where no viable options were provided to help rectify the matter. The trainer & owner seem very nice & knowledgeable in basic obedience, they do not seem to have the years of experience necessary for advanced level or behavior modification training. Requested a partial refund to help my dog work through the issues developed during the B&T with a separate (more experienced) trainer. The company declined & instead sent back a generic ‘services & results are not guaranteed’ type email.
