Meet my 3 year old South African Mastiff (Boerboel) Mākō (rhymes with taco:). Naturally we would call him Mākō taco. Initially, when we brought him home he went every where with us, even on date nights. Then a year and a half later our schedules and lives became a little hectic. Mākō and our family did not get to go out and socialize as much as we used to. Next thing we know Mākō is 3 years old and is great at protecting his pack and will not let anyone who is not part of his pack near or close to our property. I knew we had to find a trainer or enroll him in classes. Mākō listens to my husband for the most part but he is extremely protective of me. So, Mākō's protective instincts and my anxiety was just not a great combination nor was my confidence in handling my own dog in public. Needless to say Mākō and I both needed training. I asked co-workers who dropped their dogs off for obedience training somewhere for two weeks and their dogs are still having some problems. One of my friends had dropped of her dogs to a similar program and picked her dogs back up and feels there is no improvement. THEN.....I found BLUE CORD K9 LLC.... I saw on Facebook they did one on one in home training with you and your dog. This is perfect and what I was looking for. I did not want to drop off my 3 year old dog, Mākō, for 2 weeks to bond with someone else. NO! I want strengthen the bond and trust between our dog Mākō and us. So, I sent Blue Cord K9 LLC a message through Facebook. We scheduled an assessment. On assessment day Mākō did not let poor Laurinda too close to my husband and I. She had lunchmeat! Mākō did not care at all. He was doing his job very well. My anxiety was through the roof Then, Shawntay aka Tay, pulls up. We do a few more drills and both of them give us pointers. At the end of the assessment Tay was holding Mākō's leash feeding him cheese (there is a video on Blue Cord K9's social media page of this). In just the assessment time, Tay, who weighs a whole less than my dog, has gotten him to take snacks from her. Tay even took the leash from my husband and Mākō allowed her. We signed up for training on that same day. Blue Cord K9 LLC sent us Tay as our trainer. Mākō and Tay are besties now. He has deemed her part of his pack now. Tay has not only taught Mākō Mākō manners and its ok for his parents to have visitors and friends come over. He accepts her as part of his pack now. Also, Tay has taught me how to be a better pet parent. She has given crucial insights on how to correct unwanted behaviors and be proactive with knowing our dog and reading his body language. Also, knowing, respecting and learning Mākō's boundaries. My confidence has grown exponentially as Mākō's favorite handler all thanks to his trainer, Tay from Blue Cord K9 LLC. I am incredibly grateful to have found Dustin and Larinda, as they have been instrumental in helping me address the behavioral issues of my sweet yet aggressive miniature schnauzer, Rocky. Prior to seeking their assistance, Rocky would often attack and bite my children, causing tension and fear within our household. My teenage son even avoided coming downstairs until Rocky was confined to a separate room.
